Drop the "horseshit" narrative.. all it does it make McCain look like a normal guy and "maverickish"

It makes him more likeable, people.

We need to drop this narrative. The "grumpy old fart" narrative works. The "Obama was Presidential" narrative works.

The "horseshit narrative" helps McCain... especially with LIVs.

Drop it.

It's counterproductive.

1. Absolutely agree.....not to mention McCain did NOT even
say "horseshit."

We need to take up a collection to get hearing aides for some DUers.

15. That happened to me a few weeks ago, And now I can't even
holler at him if I disagree anymore.

Oh well, there's always some 3-post wonder to yell at if I need to let off some steam.

13. Thank you. I spent half the debate hiding in my room, so I wasn't
sure if he said that or not. Now I know.

to you Claire.

But let me give you a tip.

Communicating with me in CAPS generally won't lead to successful dialog.

CAPS are obnoxious.

Second, you lie because you say you don't have the energy to explain it but then use MORE energy to make an arrogant little remark when I was not even talking to YOU in my original post! Lastly, do the letters F.O. mean anything to you? Your demeanor reminds me of freepers.

That "common man" touch is endearing to people who can't understand economics or foreign policy. They need something to grasp and this kind of thing they can relate with.

20. It May Not Influence a Lot of His Base
but on the other hand, there are a lot of older conservative voters who are genuinely offended by that kind of language. And others who don't mind it but don't think it has any place in a presidential debate.

I will be willing to bet it's a net negative for McCain.

21. I respectively disagree (and have found all your threads yesterday brilliant)

If he had faced Obama and said to his face "horseshit" then you would be right.

However he whispers it under his breath hoping that the kids sitting around him hear it but that the teacher doesn't.

It exposes a truculant and petulant personality that is consistent witht he last 48 hours - this guy is 'live wire' that you would never want leading a nation in a stressful situation. I wouldn't have him run a McDonalds franchise.

The fact that he doesn't even face Obama when he whispers it seems to show that he fears Obama as a more mature person - going to the alpha dog meme.

24. Agreed. I'm not sure he said it, but if he did it goes straight to his temperment issues.
Tweety called him a troll afterall. McDouche seems to be catching some flack for his demeanor last night. The horseshit thing reinforces that idea.

23. Don't think so... quite the opposite...
People are tired of Bush's antics, for instance rubbing the back of Merkel, constantly asking about the pig he was supposed to be served at night, while in Germany, all his little disrespectful antics which home and abroad make the country look bad.

I don't think that good minded people will considered this positively. We don't need another poorly educated president in the White House.

26. wrong. It is unprecedented, crude and unpresidential behavior
last night's focus groups were displeased everytime McCain chided Obama for being naive, etc. The only folks amused by the muttering "horseshit" wouldn't vote Dem anyway, the Freeper corps.

It plays into his erratic, Queeg-like behavior that the MSM is only starting to call him on.... now's the perfect time for this. People didn't like Gore's sighing or getting into Chimpo's space, and they won't like this.

27. I don't see how it's counterproductive. I don't see the downside really.
whether or not he used vulgarity, the fact was that he was simmering with anger for 96 minutes straight. Whether or not he went over the top at one point and used a curse word hardly matters. But, it does open the discussion -- why was he so freaking angry?

One plays into the other.

I don't see how that's counterproductive.

28. Better to drop the LIV labeling.
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 12:45 PM by WIllo
Low information doesn't necessarily equal unintelligent.

Simply accessing or hanging out on DU doesn't mean intelligence is absorbed.
Isn't that McCain's 26-years in the Senate argument against Obama?

All of the good information available on DU has not stopped the mass number of threads that pop up based on what the media says --
confirming that high information voters (try that acro), continue to believe, heed and seek media support.

Which is worse? The wise person in the boiler room or the fool in the library?

To your specific point, overall McCain's demeanor was not viewed well by undecideds. Those people would not like that he muttered, under his breath, at his opponent and called "horseshit" on a fact.

That's the group to target. Not simply with a "gotcha" video but in linking it to McCain's not knowing the President or Prime Minister of Spain and that Spain is in Europe; then linking his campaign's poor decision to risk alienating an ally to cover for those mistakes and; linking back to the video of his demeanor, disregard for his debate opponent and disregard for correcting this error on an ally.

This enforces the fact that McCain is not very knowledgeable, that he is not diplomatic and that he would be a dangerous leader.

Edited to add: I heard him mutter "that's horseshit" then clearly say "horseshit" afterwards.
