Screw it. I'm going to Golden Corral for the breakfast buffet
But when I come back, I'm not hanging around DU all day. I'm going to other message boards that aren't political and spreading the Gospel of how Obama won the debate last night. Some of you may recall in 2000 that the general consensus the day after the first Gore-Bush debate was that Gore won. A few days after media spin, Bush was suddenly called the winner. I'd like to play a small part in preventing that from happening again.

4. Gore lost the spin because he was seen as having condescended with his sighs
In addition to having lost the debate on substance, McDisdain also lost it on style, so your task should be easier.

10. You and I think he lost on substance, but he got his view across well and it will appeal to some.
Really.

15. Of course, but no one but the extreme wingnuts will say he didn't lose it on style
Even Buchanan is concerned about that.

6. We all need to step outside ourselves and think of how others see and experience things...
habits in short supply on this board.

Folks just jumped all over my ass because I said there were centrist to semi-liberal Republican voters. There are. Check the suburbs of your major cities. There aren't enough Rockefeller Republicans to get elected but that constituency still votes.

16. In Boxing You Get Points For Aggressiveness
But it must be "effective" aggressiveness...I'm not sure how effective McCain was in his aggressiveness...IMHO, he came off as disrespectful and contemptuous of Obama...If Obama was as woefully unprepared to be president as McCain claims then it would show in his debate performance and McCain wouldn't have to say so...

If you like Obama you will be offended by McCain's behavior...If you dislike Obama you will like McCain's behavior...If you were on the fence would you like or dislike a person who openly disrespects his opponent, and sneers at him when he talks?

18. I agree. But I think the 'nice' factors doesn't mean a whole lot to folks that voted....
for Bush and support the Iraq War.

I hope what you have described will get those suburban Republican women living outside cities like Philly to lie to their husbands and Go 'Bama when they get in the booth....

8. Social experiement: go to IHOP and ask NOT to have bacon, ham or sausage with your meal.
See if they'll insist on charging you.

See if they'll substitute cheese with your eggs or extra toast.

I am consistently surprised IHOP doesn't accommodate vegetarians, Jews and Muslims and INSIST you have pork with your breakfast.

21. Well
Basically they're a better version of IHOP, IMHO (I'm having alphabet soup for breakfast, how 'bout you?)

I more or less went to the same one every week for my whole life. Then, about the time I was 8 or 9, an IHOP opened up on the same corner and I figured there would be a war. Fortunately we avoided that scenario, but after going there once or twice I quickly learned there was absolutely no reason to ever go there instead of Village Inn. VI is better in every metric, as far as I'm concerned. I guess the main difference is while IHOP focuses on making fancy pancakes and french toast with cream-cheese filling and whatnot, VI focuses less on the pancake side and more on the meat and potatoes aspect. But, if you ever get one of their skillets you're looking at enough food to feed two people. It's quite good. What's more, despite IHOP's investment in all kinds of crazy toppings and syrups, I've found the VI pancakes to just be better to begin with.

So yeah, if it ever came down to it I'd man the barricades for VI :)
