2. McCain is a Republican, how could he lose debating a "liberl" Democrat?

3. Agreed.....
Those in full critique mode live for that.

Obama has to be the perfect candidate in every fucking way.....even if the person he went up against was full of shit. Instead of fact checking on McCain's lies and posting them here for all to see, they offer backseat directions to the winner. Oye!

7. So right ...
ANY democrat, much less guy of BO's skin color and his not being around for a long period of time, has NO margin for error.

Really, if the media got flat out honest for one freakin moment, they would admit that BO has run the best campaign in our country's history, and is the sharpest, most level headed and reasonsed presidential candidate that there has been in my 43 years on this planet.

4. It was a brilliant performance
Went to attack mode for 20 minutes, sucked McCain into revealing his nasty personality. Then Barrack coasted to victory the rest of the way.

6. I feel like I did after the 2000 debates
I swore Gore won the debate only to watch commentators afterward insist Bush blew him away.

8. An honest assessment ....
BO didn't blow him out, it wasn't a drop dead "win" but IMO ...

1) BOTH candidates did a good job of unwaveringly presenting their views, opinions and philosophys. Based on SUBSTANCE, frankly, it was a draw, and that is to McCain's credit given the soap opera his campaign had been for two straight weeks.

2) BUT, his positions are wrong, flat out, and BO's are strong, and FORTUNATELY, at this point in time, the public is more in line with our candidate's positions.

3) BO "won" relative to demenor. He came across as confident, but reasoned, and thoughtful and likeable. As so many noted in so many ways, McCain was just flat out mean, and that he never once looked his opponent in the eye says so much in so many ways.

Again, it wasn't a blow out, and to give McCain just a little bit of credit, his performance belied the trainwreck his campaign is by a large margin. But, BO's positions are better and his demenor is better.

9. No, it wasn't a solid win for Obama (as it wasn't for Gore in 2000) but
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 07:34 AM by deutsey
IMO McCain was blatant in his use of emotional rhetorical devices (everything from his opening comment on Kennedy, to his repetition of veterans and reference to the mother of a dead soldier, to his fearmongering), where Obama gave clear, thoughtful, even reassuring responses. Then there were, as you point out, the demeanor of each: Obama seemed "presidential" while McCain came across as petty, mean, snide, and self absorbed (i.e., oblivious to the moderator trying to get him to wrap it up).

I imagine McCain's overall performance appealed to his base and it wasn't a train wreck, certainly. But Obama succeeded in establishing a unifying, presidential presence, where McCain seemed very small in comparison.

10. From the looks of the polls---Americans thought he solidly won
and that's what counts.

Who did the best job in the debate?

Barack Obama 51
John McCain 38

Who would better handle Iraq?

John McCain 47

Who would better handle the economy?

Barack Obama 58
John McCain 37
