My favorite, sweet, naive aunt. I'll take any advice.
She really is the sweetest woman you would ever want to meet. And even in her 70's she is still vital and... forgive me for saying this since it may sound incestuous... but even still "sexy". Most importantly, I have never met anyone of any age so ready to laugh! She is a bright light in any darkness.

But she has drunk the O'Reilly and Hannity kool-aid.

Long story short, I had to work late and missed the Couric-Palin interview. She called me me before I got a chance to watch it online and said that she would never watch Couric again (well, I couldn't argue that too much) because of the Palin interview. She said that Couric "asked stupid questions". That is a direct quote. since I still hadn't seen the interview yet, I said that I thought Couric was pretty hard on Obama. She replied that she remembered them laughing and joking together.

At that time, I didn't want to mention that the joking was Obama trying to lighten the mood.

I did let her know that I hated Palin, and started with the Alaskan wolf bounty. Her reply was "you don't know that's true" and then changed the subject.

OK, now I have seen the interview. It was a disaster, but Couric wasn't the disaster.

As much as I love this woman, I am beginning to believe she is a "lost cause". No matter what the facts are, she will not change.

We have plans to see a couple of movies this weekend. Should I just "let it drop"? I so want her to see the light, but at the same time I don't want it to drive a wedge between us.

5. Good advice. We have promised each other never to talk politics again
several times. But somehow it keeps coming up!

2. Sounds irrationally in love with Failin
Maybe find some proof about the wolf bounties - she didn't seem to deny that would be a bad thing if true!

But more than that, anyone who would be that into Failin might be got to be into Obama. Just send photos of Obama - maybe all it would take!

3. Just give her a hug, tell her you love her, and try to convice someone else...
...I have a similar Aunt, and trust me my friend, it's not worth the effort.

4. ALiberalSailor is right ... take the high road ...
... hug her and move on to topics where you both find happiness. Enjoy the time you have with her.

Many of us have the same issue with people who are important in our lives. If that relationship is important enough, you'll find a way to navigate around it.

9. She's PC-impaired.
I helped her get a computer and showed her how to do email, mostly because she had friends insisting she get email. At one point, it got so political that she told me she wasn't even go to check email anymore.

I honestly don't know if she meant "everyone", or if she was just wanting me to stop sending her things that contradicted her preconcieved notions. Regardless, I respected her wishes and stopped sending her emails.

I did show her Snopes.com - I sometimes think that was the "turning point".

8. First, what a great person you are, to be so admiring of your 70 something auntie and to be going to

movies with her. Second, some people will never see the light as you see it, regardless of the subject matter. Tell her what you like about Obama, rather than try to tear down Palin or McCain. But don't fight.

11. Thank You! We should only fight over movies....
although we usually agree on movies. We reached a pact a long time ago that there are certain movies she needs to see with her "girlfriends" and there are certain movies I should see with my male friends".

She's also one of the few people who actually wants to go to Plays, Musicals, and the Symphony with me.

I'm not Gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!), but I was a musician and I still have broad and eclectic tastes. Although I'm still not sure she's ready for Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring". Which is a shame, because the Nashville Ballet does such a great performance.

OK, for all of you "macho guys": the Rite of Spring is very "primal". It forces you to explore the most primative "cave man" emotions that you thought you "were better than". It takes you to the darkest side of your soul - a place you didn't know existed. As my ex stated "that was the most incredible experience I have ever had, and I'm not sure if I liked it or not".

Hmmm, maybe I SHOULD take my aunt to see it....

12. I'm not 70, but I'd go with you. First time I got a little hot reading a review of Rite of Spring!

13. Cool! Let's go! Are you near Nashville?
BTW, did you know when started a riot when it debuted in Paris?

I'm serious, if you can get here, I'll pay for the tickets - LET'S GO!

10. Let it drop.
Politics was one of the things that drove a permanent wedge between my baby sister and me. I wish I had let it drop...

14. Yeah, I think you're right.
Of course, one of the things I'll be missing is doing the "told ya so!" dance on Nov. 4th.

But, she does mean more to me than any stupid dance......
