People Are Just Nuts. That Was A Major Ass Kicking Tonight.
Like so many other times, somebody tried to move the goal post again on Barack. McCain thought he was big enough to move those goalposts. He even tried to dictate that there would be no debates, oh yeah, he would have cancelled the vp debate too.

But Obama called him out. Wouldn't let him off the hook. Made him marinate and squirm in his own trap. Forced McCain to come to the woodshed and get the ass kicking he so feared.

Obama made McCain go back on his own word in front of everyone. Made him blink. Made him back down. And then kicked his ass to the point where he was clinching his jaw And frowning.

For all the bravado that McCain tries to spin, not once was he man enough to look Obama in the eye. The spin doctors can talk all the shit they want. But the truth was seen and felt by everybody this time, even if it wasn't heard by some.

I for one am extremely pleased with what happened tonight and I'm going to enjoy it to the hilt.

I must've been watching a different debate than you, because I saw missed opportunity after missed opportunity for Obama.

McCain: blahblah I love the veterans, they know I'll take care of them. blahblahblah

Obama: (what he SHOULD HAVE said): McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments. McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities. McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans. Aaaaannnd!!! McCain voted against requiring mandatory minimum downtime between tours of duty for troops serving in Iraq.

What Obama DID say: We need to restore America's place in the world, regain world respect to make us safer blahblah.

MISSED CHANCE AFTER MISSED CHANCE TONIGHT. HE WAS ON THE DEFENSIVE DEFENDING HIMSELF AGAINST LIES AND FALSE ACCUSATIONS.

McCain: I am certain al qaeda would establish a permanent base in Iraq blahblah...

WHAT OBAMA SHOULD HAVE SAID: JOhn, at one time you weren't even sure which were the Sunnis and which were the Shiites. You weren't sure which faction was being trained by Iran. And hey, you ALSO WEREN'T CLEAR ON THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE REGION AND REFERRED TO THE "IRAQ-PAKISTAN BORDER". SO DON'T STAND HERE AND TRY TO PRETEND YOU'RE AN AUTHORITY ON A REGION YOU CAN'T EVEN SEEM TO GET STRAIGHT.

7. Man, I'm surprised how many people don't understand the audience watching.
The audience watching wants to LIKE their President. They want to feel like their President understands them and relates to them.

They do not like insults, attacks and "gotchas".

Watch the reaction lines to this debate. McCain's attacks and tone lost him this debate.

If Obama said everything you wanted him to say, you would have loved it.

But would the undecideds have loved it?

That's the real question.

14. Bingo!
McCain came across as insulting and petty. People don't like that.

It was Obama's debate to lose. All he had to do was show up, show himself to be thoughtful, articulate, and someone people could like. Dispel the stereotypes the McCain campaign has tried to create. He did that.

People are looking for change. They were holding back on Obama to see how he would handle the debates and to see if they were comfortable with him. He passed that test tonight.

The truth is the substance in the debate wasn't that great. Both candidates were all pover the place.

But Obama accomplished what he had to do, while McCain revealed himself to be someone people are not going to like to vote for.

I'm guessing that's what the polls will reflect over the next few days.

12. We are way too hard on Obama here. Even Dick Morris of all people said he won
I think we need to get over ourselves as being "experts" on every little thing and realize that debates are unfortunatley about looking presidential and about temperament and charisma and Obama did all 3.

6. EXACTLY Obama tore McCain apart he got him and every issue going had tons of solutions and McCain >
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 02:15 AM by barack the house
said it happened cos his party sucked. McCain nearly cried at the end cos he knew he screwed the troops to support bush.

Obama showed that foreign affairs was far vaster than just the middle east, he said the Russian conflict could of been avoidable he looked abundantly knowledgeable on foreign and domestic and made McCain look like the rookie. My only quibble the cameramen elevated the 2 candidates to the same height it would of been the final touch to see how much smaller McCain is. The final nice touch was Barack went in for the handshake showing confidence.

McCain came with a small bag of tricks that he kept repeating a ton of times, while Barack was giving the full scale David Blaine performance. McCain didn't know what day of the week it was at the end of it. He made me immensely proud of the Democratic party tonight we couldn't of asked for more. I also feel he is saving the best for last too.

9. I saw a lot of things this night...
But overall, the number one thing I saw was a desperate man. I'd say he was eager with desperation... considering this the first debate and Obama starting to run away with it... it would be an eagerness to get this GE on the road, yet a desperation because he realizes it may be too late.

Barack did everything that he needed to. McCain looked nervous and confused at first, then settled down and was an angry liar. It was a good night for Obama.

15. I'm an independent. I watched the debate
And I have a different perspective from you. Sorry.

I too enjoyed the debate and I do believe that Obama did well. I also believe that McCain did quite well too. I for one am excited that for the first time in a hideously long time we have two candidates who have firm -- if varied -- grasps of what's going on in the world.

McCain did himself no favors by repeatedly trying to "mischaracterize" Obama's past statements on things (ie airstrikes in Pakistan). I mean, how bold is he to lie about what Obama has said and Obama is standing right there?? But we all know that's what all politicians do. And as for temperament, there were lots of times that BOTH candidates look pissed but I do believe that it was very telling that McCain could not or simply refused to look Obama in his face ONCE. I'm sure that there will be tons of psychoanalysis on why he did that, but it definitely seemed bizarre and unnecessary.

But I also know that McCain's name dropping of places he's been and people he's met was no accident and it was very effective. The man might be DEAD WRONG as Biden says on a bunch of stuff, but unlike Bush and the idiot Palin, at least he knows what the hell he's talking about if for no other reason than to deceive people into believing what he wants them to believe.

I do believe that Obama won but anyone who says that Obama knocked this out of the park may be too biased and not see what many others will see. McCain held his own and the relieved looks on his campaign staff after the debate underscored this.

letting McCain knock it out. On HIS (McCain's)strong suit.

This my friend is a game changer for a lot of undecideds.

21. Even a "tie" goes to Obama as a win
because McCain has been around forever and *should* know all this stuff. Obama stood toe-to-toe with him every second. He proved his capability was at least equal to a guy who have been around as long as McCain.

20. For me, the biggest impact was the visual. McCain came off as an angry,
cranky, snarky, old coot. Obama, on the other hand, was presidential in demeanor.

22. I agree for some slightly different reasons
Obama came across as HONEST. McCain came across as the opposite. When someone can't look another in the eye, we all subconsciously know that something is not right there...that all is not what it seems with the person demonstrating that behavior. McCain's behavior last night will have a devastating effect on his public image. I am certain of this.

I have come away from watching the debate absolutely certain that not only can Obama superbly handle the job, but also that we can absolulely trust that every decision he will make will be a result of what he truly believes is in the best interests of our country.

It has been a long time, but, I finally feel that we have a candidate that we can completely depend on. As president, he will "have our backs".

I am feeling a tremendous sense of relief for our country.

24. Yep, supposedly McLame's strongest topic
So even a "tie" or small "defeat" would be acceptable really.

A "win" and the momentum - looking good for Obama now.
