and please, strong, beautiful White men of America, don't take it as a slight. This really is the sixties again, only in a different realm. The last barrier is being broken, and it's a heavy one. Please pray for him.

42. That's what my son said a few months ago. Jackie Robinson. I had complained about Obama's

performance in one of the primary debates. I said he looked more tired than people decades older than he was.

My son scolded me, "Mom, you cannot imagine what he goes through every day. The names. The catcalls. The signs. The death threats. And he cannot say a thing about it. He's the Jackie Robinson of politics."

As soon as he said "Jackie Robinson," I got it. I have never complained about Obama since.

Danged if I know how my son got so much wiser than his mom.

I called the obama campaign and suggested that they try to find some subtle way to use that.

BTW, I later read that Jackie Robinson was one of the people who financed the first airlift of Kenyan students--the one that brought Obama, Sr. to America from Kenya. Life's funny, huh?

39. I'm African American and it is hard to believe sometimes
but what touches me the most is to see Whites/Others that adore them as much as we do.

To us, they are like "family."

It is not unusual for us to see African American couples hug each other like they hug.

It's not unusual for us to know others that are high achievers or articulate and just plain beautiful.

But for so many people of other races to love them and accept them as they would their own family members --- now that is what makes this respect and outpouring of love for Obama so so special.

It makes me cry happy tears -- thank you DU for showing what America can be ~

33. How many of us fortunate to have a love like that know that hug at the
end of a really shitty day.. I think Obama did good.. But McCain's shenanigans all week long played like a roller coaster.. Obama held his own and did really well... That's a hug that says, fuck the world, I love ya baby and that's what counts..

Also, did you notice how quickly they left the stage.. In debates past, the candidates stand on the stage and wave to the audience as the credits roll.. The tension was real.. This was the MOST uncomfortable debate I remeber watching and I watched Bush.. The animosity and tone of McCain sliced the air.. Obama rose above it, but the uncomfort in the room was McCain.
