Anyone else not fond of the McNames?
I know that this will not be a popular post, but sometimes it seems like the name calling brings less value to the argument, which is usually very valid. Just my two cents.

25. Its the method of venting, the "Back to the Future" tie in.
Biff: "Hello, McFly!"

There is something really stupid about it, but then again politics is stupid. What's with the "McCain Blinked" letters before the debate, and then McCain can't look Obama in the eye? Strange days, these.

I just find doing that is silly and does take away from the point of the argument.

That goes for things like "Repug" and "repuke" also.

If you want to see how small-minded name-calling actually is, head over the freerepublic and see the stuff they come up with.

but name-calling won't win this election. I think they deserve worse but I think the use of McNames devalues the arguments made in a more inclusive (non-DU situation). If this is an environment for venting, then I can understand that.

40. name comments
I tend to be fairly liberal in my opinion of the names used here even by myself. The only things I kind of stick on are racist or sexist stuff. Growing up in the fifty's, gave me a mindset that took years of introspection to overcome, but if a point is valid then have at it.

42. McCrash deserves it, and anyone who disagrees is a doo-doo head,
with all due respect, of course.O8)

But seriously, very important function of this board is the chance to vent and let off steam, which is why I've tended to refer to the current walking disaster in the white house as "Our Cowboy Caligula", "Commander Codpiece", "Monkeyboy", "Dear Leader Shrub Jong Il", and whatever else seemed fitting.

And are people really coming here for high-minded policy debates?

it's a way of venting. Sometimes you or someone else might not like it-- but it keeps my head from blowing off!

How many times have you heard the right name call? This is a safe place for me to vent my frustrations with everything blowing up in the world.

Please don't take my pleasures away! I like them too much.

It's funny.

I can't imagine what it would take to complain about such a thing.

Usually Democrats have a better sense of humor than Repukes do. It would be like them to complain about it (even as they do it to "dumbocrats" but they usually have double standard)

51. McCain literally means "Son of Cain"
Mc can mean:

* Mc-, Gaelic ancestral name to mean "son of", as in McCarthy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mc

Granted, I wouldn't want my last name to have the name of the first murderer in Jewish/Christian tradition...

53. It's a valid point, but you're talking to a message board of highly partisan people
And part of the reason we come here is to trash our opponents and make fun of them. Yes it's probably part of the reason that this country is so divided. But it's in the nature of politics to do this sort of thing.

And I try not to do it very often

But this is a place to vent and sometimes our anger and frustration boils over in such a way that we (and I include myself in that) can be a bit over the top

Congratulations BTW for expressing your point of view politely and not setting a hostile tone with your opening thread. Too many people start their posts with "flame away" or "I know I'm going to be insulted" or something like that and it sets the tone for how people will respond
