****Are there any White Working Class Voters Here?
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 11:56 PM by firedupdem
Tweety and company keeps saying Obama doesn't connect with White Working Class Voters! Where are they getting this shit? Do they mean to say white working class assholes or bigots? I don't get it!

2. It's kind of true...
Working class, non-unionized White voters in Dixie and Appalachia are not going for Obama.

18. Easy...
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 12:11 AM by LiberadorHugo
If you look at sub-demographics among White voters, you'll see that Obama is popular in regions where people tend to be well-educated and where there's a lot of union penetration; these demographics parallel the situation of White people in much of Canada and Europe, who favour Obama by an overwhelming margin even though they are not American and not able to vote.

As for why he can't connect with those people, he's too intelligent and he's too Black. It's very difficult for complex truths to overcome simplistic propaganda among people who believe that the world was created 6,000 years ago by a Hebrew war god in 7 days. Almost no Jews and almost no European Christians believe this to be true. The Appalachian counties of Ky sure as fuck didn't go 95% Clinton because the people are feminists...lol (Mind you, this is generally true, not universally true...I'm sure you can even drag out the odd African-American voter with a college degree and a unionized job who's supporting McCain.)

28. Read what I said about a generally true vs. a universally true statement.
It might help. Suppose 80 - 90% of White people in AR supported segregation during the 1940s; does this mean that Bill Clinton's grandparents felt that way? (Asked Slick Willy what grandma did when he used the n-word at age 3.)

3. I'm sort of working class...
I have been most of my life, anyway. I feel Obama connects with me. I'm glad you brought this up, because I was wondering what the hell Tweety and Co. were talking about. Obama connects very well with what people like myself are going through . McCain doesn't. I don't get how they could see something so completely different than I saw.

Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 11:59 PM by goodgd_yall
That's when I switched to Fox News and found that a Nevada focus group of independents was overwhelmingly critical of McCain and believed Obama won the debate. That was a good antidote to Tweety's nonsense.

To think that I found Fox news reporting something positive about Obama and Tweety being hypercritical.

26. Rough translation:
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 12:14 AM by msallied
We need to keep this race close, and in order to do that, we have to create the narrative that rural white folk don't know a good thing when they see it, because that good thing has brown skin.

15. I think he means White working class stupid people and bigots.
And when did an education become a bad thing? These a-holes better not ever talk about education again, because all they have ever done was try to ostracize Obama due to his education and his intellect.

Now all of the sudden that's something to be ashamed of, a disconnect? If McCain was that smart or educated they'd be shoving it down our throats.

29. They mean exactly what you think they mean.
So I have two questions:

1) Aside from his low melanin count, how exactly does McCain "connect" with this group in a way Obama doesn't?

2) Should Obama take the Step'n'fetchit approach, or go more Uncle Tom, in order to "connect"?

Now you have to talk me down!

35. I really think it's MSM's way of creating a bigger division than
there is. I think some people are just blind uninformed republicans that just vote with their party no matter what...and then there are ignorant asses that won't vote for Obama because he's black. I think they media tries to play that divide up more than it really is...to create dissension. Look at our convention! That was unity...all colors in the rainbow. Look at the RNC...not really a picture of what america really looks like.

Yes. Let's talk about who doesn't connect. McCain does not represent what America looks like. It's McCain who has the disconnect.

Maybe that's it. But the "boy" really is an elitist for getting him some education. Now he's arrogant. Doesn't know his place.

McCain is up for position now. It's SUPPOSED to be his, according to the real elites and insiders. Ya know, due to his POW experience that he went thru almost fifty years ago.

What about the other POWs? What are they due? McCain won't even let them reach out to try to find out Viet Nam Vet info.

32. hey
if one works for a paycheck, one is working class

seriously

alas, in the us, folks mostly identify as "middle class"

but, anyway, there are pockets of folks who buy into the war rhetoric, who like the tough, sabre rattling talk, who don't know what 'socialism' really means and who buy into the lies and smears about obama having a liberal record

truth is, both parties are way right of center

we don't have any left wing candidate

Kucinich came closest

He is white, 50, and is the union representative at a large truck manufacturing plant in Ohio. He supports Obama, but is very frustrated by the responses he gets from workers then when he talks up Obama. He says a lot of it is openly race-based, particularly among the men.

41. I don't know who they're talking about.
They act as if the white, blue collar workers are a monolithic group. That is patently untrue.

We are Midwesterners, South Philadelphians, Northeast Philadelphians, etc. We are Catholics, Baptists, non-Christians, etc.

There are cultural influences that are just as important (if not more so) than our pay grades.

I don't think they know who we are.
