11. Please explain to me why if we are losing in a poll that
"helping out" helps? I'm confused at this - it seems a childish and silly thing to do!

15. To a logical person, you are correct. Unfortunately, many people
are sheep and will vote for the perceived "winner". I have seen efforts by DU'ers turn losing polls around. The concept is that is if they see a poll as "close", they might actually think more about the way they are leaning rather than just accept the "winning" candidate and vote for them.

It is silly and childish, but at the risk of sounding "elitest" you can't discount the silly and childish voter.

Most people don't follow the issues as closely as we do here. It's not really their fault, they have too many other things vying for thir attention. If they see a poll swinging wildly for one candidate, then they will think "maybe they know something I don't" If they see a poll that's close, then they will probably become more engaged.

At least that's the rationale as I see it. Whether it's right or wrong is debatable. (get it? That was a joke about the debates! Oh, fell flat... oh well!) But we will try anything to get this country back on course, and if there's a CHANCE this will help we'll try it.

Did that help? :hi:
