How much did Gore's "sighs" and "eye-rolls" affect the average independent in 2000?

I was only 13 at that time, so I guess I wasn't paying as much attention as I could have (though even then I knew Bush would be a mistake.) But I have heard a lot about how Al Gore's body language in some of the debates turned into such a negative for him, and I am curious as to how much of a negative it really was?


I ask this simply because, if Gore's really was that detrimental, then I don't see how McCain's behavior tonight could have been a plus.

Obama is winning the spin war now. The polling is saying he won and that will be the post-debate mantra - on McCain's supposed strength.

I think that most people are done with "everyman" pretzeldents, at least for now. Obama's calm reasoning is reassuring rather than threatening.
