Early Poll Results Suggest More Uncommitted Voters Saw Obama As Debate Winner
Posted by Brian Montopoli

CBS News and Knowledge Networks conducted a nationally representative poll of approximately 500 uncommitted voters reacting to the debate in the minutes after it happened.

These figures are still preliminary and could change as more respondents complete the survey. But here's what we have so far:

Forty percent of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. Twenty-two percent thought John McCain won. Thirty-eight percent saw it as a draw.

Forty-six percent of uncommitted voters said their opinion of Obama got better tonight.

Sixty-eight percent of uncommitted voters think Obama would make the right decisions about the economy. Forty-one percent think McCain would.

Forty-nine percent of these voters think Obama would make the right decisions about Iraq. Fifty-five percent think McCain would.

We will have a full report on the poll later on. Uncommitted voters are those who don't yet know who they will vote for, or who have chosen a candidate but may still change their minds.

1. Fascinating ...

Uncommitted voters break heavily for Obama.

At the same time, apparently half of DU is in near meltdown.

I don't recognize this place sometimes.

3. I don't either!
I am REALLY happy with how the debate went. Not so happy with some of the idiot pundits on MSNBC earlier, but it looks like most of the post-debate spin has been pretty good, or at least not TOO bad.

5. We secretly hoped for a blowout...
...or for some of us, not so secretly.

Also, Obama only pointed out about 1/3 of McCain's lies. To be fair, he didn't have the time to catch them all.

8. Pundits doing what they always doing ...
Playing it close to the chest. Now the instant opinion polls are coming out, and they are showing that the people who matter -- that would be us, the people who vote -- saw it differently.

Interestingly, several heavily conservative pundits are expressing disappointment in McCain, which says a lot.

Good to see you, blondee. Boomer! :hi:

12. They make me look forward to Saturdays!

I'm living in enemy territory now.

Which is fun.

When the Sooners are winning. :-)

4. Olbermann just talked about this...
He mentioned it was Obama 40%, McCain 22%, 38% thought it was a draw.

Then he snarked, "wait, that should be in second place... Obama 40%, draw 38%, McCain 22%"

I love Olbermann.

10. He does not miss a thing. IE: McCain admitted tonight we have been torturing people.
Then played the sound bite that most people missed and went on to say "We could not do it AGAIN, if we had not done it in the past"
