40% of UNCOMMITTED VOTERS who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/26/politics/horserace/entry4482028.shtml

CBS News and Knowledge Networks conducted a nationally representative poll of approximately 500 uncommitted voters reacting to the debate in the minutes after it happened.

These figures are still preliminary and could change as more respondents complete the survey. But here's what we have so far:

Forty percent of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. Twenty-two percent thought John McCain won. Thirty-eight percent saw it as a draw.

Forty-six percent of uncommitted voters said their opinion of Obama got better tonight.

Sixty-eight percent of uncommitted voters think Obama would make the right decisions about the economy. Forty-one percent think McCain would.

M$M ...

1. As I've said, the American peolple have wised up.
Don't fuck with them. They may have been collectively stupid a few years ago, but now, only about 23% are dumber than shit.

And the few conservatives I know hate John McCain and are writing in Ron Paul or voting for Barr.

5. It's easy to be stupid... or at least apathetic... when life is easy
When things go south, the cerebral cortex wakes up and pays close attention.

7. This pretty much proves he wins when the economy is #1 in voters' minds.
Dear Obama debate coaches:

1. Sit him down and tell him to STOP SAYING JOHN MCCAIN IS RIGHT. Even if you do agree on some outlying principle with him, DO NOT USE THIS LANGUAGE.

2. Get a bit more aggressive. There were some openings you hit fairly well--such as the "You were wrong" spiel...but you missed a chance to pummel him on veterans and torture. Don't just stand there and let him lie--and I was at least glad to see you corrected him pointedly on your tax plan.

3. Never, ever change the body language. It was PERFECT. That's one thing you got exactly right.

9. That's good. 68% on the economy is fantastic

The economy is going to be the most salient issue. As for foreign policy, people are war weary, feeling broke and not eager to have a President who is likely to start more wars.
