The best farmland on the Korean Peninsula is in the South. The North got the coal, but that hasn't really helped.

I've read several accounts of Western visitors commenting on extremely small North Koreans of certain ages.

Really, the Kims have been a disaster for that country, and I really feel badly for the people.

The Kims seem to be a bunch of megalomaniacs who have done little for their fellow countrymen and have pissed off even their friends the Chinese and the Russians.

The North has problems finding the money for fertilizer and fuel for the tractors. There have also been growing seasons with floods and poor weather. The best farmland went to the South.

It all adds up to not enough healthy food.

It is a really bad situation for the people of North Korea.

I saw this a couple of years ago in a special (on HB0?) about defectors from North Korea. It is quite scary, they have a good segment of their population that suffer from some form of developmental disabilities (physical or mental). Makes good cannon fodder I guess, that is if you don't starve to death before your an adult.
