A simple lie resonates more than an elaborate truth.
If Kerry staffers really DO read this, I'd hope they listen.

The reason the Republicans get away with what they do is they keep it simple. Kerry seems to feel the need to nuance every issue.

PLEASE keep it simple.

3. It also works
If you repeat that lie over and over, even after it has been exposed, because people tend to think that the more they hear it the more it must be true.

13. I'm talking about things like his IWR vote.
He said that he'd still vote for it, knowing what we do now, because he believes the President should have that authorization. That doesn't resonate with most people (me included).

All he had to say was "No, President Bush lied about what he was going to do with that authorization. I wouldn't vote to give it to him again." Simple.

15. no, it's not that simple
they would use it to accuse him of supporting saddam and not defending the country. he isn't going to fall into that. he is putting the blame on bush.

he still gets crap for opposing the vietnam war. he gets crap for his war service even though he actually served unlike bush.

17. Agreed...it pulls their teeth
The GOP can't attack him on that..."why, Kerry voted to give war authorization to a crooked idiot, er..."

20. Hammer--Nail
Kerry's message in his senate testimony after Vietnam was powerful precisely because it was clear as a bell and simple--- not nuanced.

Save the nuance for position papers. Campaigns need bumper stickers and image/themes.

The Pubs absolutely know that just repeating "I voted for it before I voted against it" is good enough to sway people who view life on the level of a comic book.

And, there are a lot of voters on that level.

8. What is the best lie to nail Bush on?
Disregarding the above trolls post to this effect - it is a valid question. In the course of a discussion with an undecided, what is the single most solid and simple example to illustrate a clean Bush lie. One WITHOUT plausible deniability.

I don't consider the WMDs air tight because Shrub has the 'bad intelligence' out and so is insulated from 'lie' status.

I know there must be some significant ones, but i'd like to have a list of things that really drive it home. Thanks.

11. Campaign promises
He can be nailed for almost ALL of his campaign promises, from the underfunding of NCLB (which we do get him on - it still amazes me they are hailing it in this convention) - gay rights (states should decide before, FMA after) - Nation building (said he was against before, now all for)...these are both LIES and FLIP FLOPS.

9. We can keep it simple and tell the truth.
I think sound-bites can do much more damage than long-winded explanations. Every time I see another Kerry press release I want to scream.

10. "I went to war"
How the hell much more simple can it be? It IS NOT that they keep it simple, it IS that they STAY ON MESSAGE no matter what they think of the message. They do not publicly criticize their campaign or policies, EVER. Don't complain when the message is lost because too many people would rather criticize the message or the messenger.

12. yup
you get people accusing him of being a war monger for saying "reporting for duty" in his convention speech.

and someone started a thread today with subject line saying they hated Kerry because he brings up mccain's name in his speech. do you see republicans getting angry at a democrat giving the keynote address ? if we did that there would be posts on how kerry is selling out and how it means kerry doesn't think our party has anyone good and other crap.

and of course all the posts on du which go like "what did Kerry mean by _______"?
