How is Lieberman an effective surrogate?
Well, other than being one of the few on team McCain that can sound coherent and stay on message.

Does anybody across the spectrum believe anything he says? I'm thinking he has less credibility than almost anyone in the country.

1. I don't know, I'm just glad he's not on MY side.

3. His favorability rating is probably 65%+ nationally.
Marginal voters only remember that he was Al Gore's VP in 2000.

4. I have so many questions like that about the campaign...
Like, how is Sarah Palin qualified to be vice president of anything?

Or, how is McCain even the nominee?

How is pretending to "suspend" your campaign, while actually doing no such thing, good presidential politics?

etc.

5. it plays very well except for democrats.
we see him as a turncoat, but republicans see him as a democrat (even though he's not) who is reasonable enough (even though he's not) to see that mclame is the better candidate (even though he's not).

6. He's the only one who has a more irritating voice than Palin
Makes her sound good by comparison.

7. "being one of the few on team McCain that can sound coherent..."
Isn't that just stunning? Obviously his one asset is that he retains a semblence of sanity & intellect. He's not an effect surrogate, he's simply the most effective they have. The second best is Rudy Giuliani, who can't plan for shit, but still manages to make effective points in the heat of argument (once he shuts up about 9-11, that is).

It's ironic (or not) that the two McCain supporters best able to think on their feet are the two most liberal in his camp.
