Seriously, this gambit is absurd.

Is he going to find a way to duck all of the debates so that no one has to see him attempting to speak off the cuff?

The stumbles, the lack of press conferences, now this . . . it's clear that McCain is being kept away from any event that's not tightly scripted. And it's becoming more and more obvious that it's due to some serious mental deterioration.
