McCain said over a month ago Obama opened the door for him to use Rev. Wright against him
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 09:20 PM by jenmito
I started a thread about it in August. It was because of Obama calling McCain on not knowing how many houses he owned. NOW they're saying the Limbaugh-connection radio ad opened the door to Wright and Ayers. He was going to do it no matter what:

2. Of course. They want to do it right before the election.
Hopefully, the voters will see it as old news.

4. And the saddest part of all
is that Rev. Wright, though he made some really bad statements, is actually a great guy who is right on targer 95% of the time....but he got caught on that 5%--but who of us is not wrong at least 5% of the time? I am wrong far more than that---but not on politics :-)

35. Palin's pastor problems are considerable.
The witchcraft guy and the "Jews for Jesus" guy, and probably lots of available video footage.

Like Palin's statements about the Iraq war being a mission from God.

17. The safeties come off of what?
Lets be honest here, nothing we have on McCain is nearly as damaging as Rev. Wright saying "God Damn American" in some swing states like Ohio and PA.

The Keating 5 stuff is damaging but it takes too long to explain to voters who have an attention span 30 seconds long. Put a Keating 5 ad up against a Rev. Wright ad, and the Rev. Wright Ad will do more damage, IMHO.

Obama needs to keep hitting McCain on the economy and ride that issue to the White House. If he gets into an smear Ad campaign against McCain, he loses.

23. Yes, but we don't really know what effect Rev. Wright stuff will have on the general election
A lot of voters don't tune in until the last month or so. They probably know about Wright and heard him say some things that they disagree with but it is was background noise.

If McCain brings it up again in full force, it will bring the issue back to the fore front and voters will either be reminded of it or see it through the scope of the election for the first time. I think well done Wright and Pfleger Ads(McCain will throw him into too) could really hurt Obama in the rust belt.

Since the first time the Wright stuff came out was in the dem primaries, the recation of those voters cannot be used to interpret the voting reactions of the voters in a general election. I don't think polls will accurately pridict the effect of the reaction to Wright since this goes hand in hand with the Bradley Effect. A significant portion of voters will tell pollsters one thing and do something else in the voting booth.

28. Let them
use Wright, Ayers and anyone else they want to use.

Bottom line is the American people are worried about the economy. The American people know that John McCain knows squat about the economy. They know that John McCain will take us further into the depths of hell.

Obama should just continue hammering McCain on his weaknesses, which is pretty much every thing these days.

Or am I giving the American people to much credit for not be able to see through the smoke screen?

And let me add, my last statement is not meant for anyone on this board. You all see through it just fine.

how the heck are ya?

I agree. Barack just needs to continue to be Barack and hopefully his message will get through. We're not going to get a lot of help by the media of course. Sure, it's been brutal for McCain lately but it will change.

Barack is going to win this on the ground and I have all the confidence in the world in him.

31. The SAD part is that what Rev. Wright said wasn't too far from the truth....
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 09:55 PM by Clio the Leo
... but I'm a nut case, so ignore me.

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme." .... I'm sorry, but there's not too much there I disagree with.

I have more problem with how he acted AFTER all that mess blew up, at the National Press Club ..... showing his hind end when he knew it would not help things for his "friend."

36. Oh yeah, well what about this...........
"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."

I realize that Malcolm X got into some trouble for saying something like that but still, not a whole lot there to disagree with IMO.

Now, I hope no one misunderstands me, I realize why Barack had to seperate himself from Rev. Wright. I just think it's sad that his views are seen as extreme.
