IT'S WORKING! Holy cow, its really, really working!
Last night, on DU - once again, I posted an OP with a link to Obama's Action Center. Once again, it sank like a rock (but thanks to those who rec'd it). Kind of sad, but I keep trying.

Well, I came home from a long day of work and was shuffling through my overflowing inbox, and glanced through the First Read synopsis of the day that shows up there faithfully.

What do I see but this precious tidbit:

First thoughts: Sunshine for ObamaPosted: Tuesday, September 23, 2008 9:26 AM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: First Thoughts

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Carrie Dann
*** Sunshine on Obama’s shoulders: If you want to know why Obama is doing his debate prep today in -- of all places -- Tampa, FL, look no further than the latest TODAY Show/NBC/Mason-Dixon poll, which has Obama up in the Sunshine State by two points, 47%-45%. Yet inside those numbers, Obama leads McCain in the Tampa Bay area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, and Polk counties) by a 49%-43% margin. Mason-Dixon pollster Brad Coker says the key to winning Florida statewide is usually through Tampa Bay, and Obama’s six-point lead in the area explains why he’s ahead in this poll. Moreover, outside of Nevada, there is probably not another state that has been hurt more by the housing and credit crunch, and that may be benefiting Obama right now. Also potentially troublesome for McCain in this must-win GOP state, he leads by just six among Hispanics (49%-43%), which in Florida is made up of a majority of Cubans. (If Obama does pick off younger Cubans, he may close the overall gap thanks to his large lead among non-Cuban Hispanics in the I-4 corridor.) Also, McCain's four-point lead among seniors (48%-44%) is not as big as he needs it to be to offset the electorate-changing demographics among blacks and young voters. So Obama's decision to prep for Friday's debate in Florida is turning into a smart play, huh? Any extra day in Florida might pay off…

Did you read that? Tampa Bay - Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Hernando counties.

Maybe all those Saturdays spent knocking on doors, and nights calling area residents really worked. Hell, I'm sure it did! I am so freaking psyched right now. We're taking this area, and with it, Florida, and with that, the White House! All the great people I know who are getting involved and talking to people, getting outside their comfort zone for the first time in their lives, this is their story, their victory.

Please help out if you can.

42 DAYS LEFT, baby! Let's make them count.

13. It is working!
When polls are close, it is going to come down to turn out, who has the best ground game. My state, NC, is close too and I am working really hard to win the game. If reps lose FL and NC, they are sunk!

15. I am having a hard time believing that NC is actually as close as they say.
But after looking at the polling data and the demographics, it looks like we might could pull this off if we work really really hard. Tell you what, we won't lose cause I didn't try hard.

20. His action center website rocks.....
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 08:03 PM by rainbow4321
I can type in my zip code and pick "15 mile radius" and get 50+ different actions to pick from.
Blockwalks, voter registration drives, bank calling, debate watch parties...the list goes on and on and new stuff is added each day. It's how I plan my weekends now, basically.

The drives have hit EVERYwhere imaginable. Balloon festival, Ozzfest, supermarkets, supercenters, coffee shops, various clubs around the city..EVERYwhere. Upcoming are the TX State Fair, the Cotton Bowel game at the fair, my city's international festival that will have a new citizen swearing in ceremony and a parade/celebration.
Most of the drives are NONpartisan (don't wear Obamagear, etc)..but, IMHO, people are not lined up at these things cuz they are excited about McLame/lipstick!!

I took a trip over to the dark side (aka Mclame's website)and looked at his, shall I say, NONaction center. He doesn't have shit. Only thing he has now is locals who are having debate watching parties. Pretty safe to say that if ya see a voter registration drive in this city/county, it's Obama's grassroot folks.

34. If you think about it, the repugs couldn't have drives if they wanted to
For most places of businesses, if they are going to give a group the OK to set up shop on their property, it is going to have to be billed as NONpartisan.
Given that it is safe to say that people registering to vote are being motivated to do so by Obama and NOT Mclame, the repugs know that THEY will end up registering new Obama voters. Dems know who are the ones taking time out to stop at the "nonpartisan" registration tables...and it ain't wanna be repuke voters.
Gettin new voters registered can only hurt McLame, the repukes know it, hence you won't see any repukes setting up voter registration drives at most businesses (stores, coffee shops, supercenters, etc...).

New voter registration and GOTV are what the repukes fear most.

28. GO TAMPA !!!!!!!!
We're workin it down here in Broward..getting lots of 'no party' folks going for Obama big time -- but I keep worrying since Broward went big for Kerry and, well..we all know how that went. This time just feels different, people I get on the phone aren't just for Obama, they are psyched... they want to talk and talk and talk.. lol! But I think Tampa's going to really do it for us this time. The volunteers up there have been going all out since early in the primaries and it's really paying off in a big way. You guys RAWK!!

since july my 55+ hours per week on the campaign in addition to my 40/hr job leaves little for her and the kids especially since she works FT and we have no family in the area but the road to the WH is through the TB area.

its all for the kids!
