Obama is actually a superior debator, if we lived in a fair world...but since we don't, McCain is being given points before he starts.
McCain will use a lot of humor and go with his one liners that sting. He'll say disparaging things about Barack while he is smiling, and will actually be the one that tries to "unerve" Barack. That is what he is been counseled to do in order to stay away from being the hot head that he is. He will come off as authoratarian, cause he is. He will come off as snide and condenscending, because he is. He will play the POW card and try to evoke passion, because he has been told that Obama is not passionate enough.
Obama has a lower expectation bar, and so he is being given far more counsel from the Pundits, which means in reality that he has more hurdles to clear, as usual. Remember that he's the guy that always has to perform twice as well to get 1/2 of the credit.
some of what pundits have ordered are: 1. Show more passion. 2. Appear Strong in your answers. 3. Keep your answers short. 4. Will try to make McCain "mad".
I think that Obama will not take a lot of this advise to heart, of so, I hope that he doesn't.
1. He will show the right amount of passion, as he has all along. This lack of passion meme is a myth. There will probably be a question that "tests" his passion...to see if a Dukakis moment can be achieved. I believe he will be prepared for this.
2. Barack Obama always come off as a "strong" leader regardless of what the media says. Just the fact that he is a Black man makes him appear stronger, because one has to be strong to get to where he got to and be Black. Those that question his presidential bearing and strenght, say it because they have nothing else, or else they consider short declarative sentences making "pronouncements" as what makes one strong. There is nothing he needs to do there, other than what he chooses to do.
3. Again the "professorial" tag currently given to him by the media is a misnomer. His answers only need to be made slightly shorter, but he does want to convey that his view is not Black and White. Before, he was too "inspiring" and vague according to same sources. Bunch of bunk brought to you by the Media Pundits who don't know shit, but know how to lie and exaggerate.
4. I don't think that Barack will make McCain mad in a way that will be obvious. If he does, he will have a smile on his face when it is done, and will not be noticeable. McCain will have to fight with McCain in order to get through it, but he will. When you see McCain laugh, you will know he is pissed.
