I finally saw a Kerry ad...but it's an old guy (who isn't prominently
identified) saying that John Kerry has the power or something for leadership...then the ad shows Kerry giving a speech.

After seeing three "Swift Boats for Bush" ads today on CNN (checking for Hurricane Coverage) I finally get to see ONE Kerry ad and it's got a kindly old gentleman saying why he supports Kerry...but I really don't get it...

Isn't this "kindly old gentleman" a retired general I saw on a talk show? What's his name and his rank...the ad didn't seem to make it clear to me who he was and why I should care that he supports Kerry.

Has anyone else seen this ad? Did you get it?

1. What state do you live in?
Who was the sponsor of the ad?

Did John Kerry say he approved the message?

Was it a DNC ad?

Was it a Moveon ad?

Was it a moveonpac ad?

Was it a union ad?

Was it a Media fund ad?

Thanks in advance for the specificity.

2. Is it the DNC ad with Air Force General McPeak?

I think it's a pretty good ad, personally, an Air Force General who voted for Bush in 2000 endorsing Kerry... I've seen it on CNN quite a few times.

5. The ad was on CNN and YES it's McPeak! But he isn't identified long
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 04:52 PM by KoKo01
enough for the viewers to know who he is, and why it's important, what he's saying.

As an ad...it Sucks...IMHO...as a DU oldie...who has some history with Marketing/Publishing/As, stuff. This wouldn't have gotten by in the pre 90's days as "effective." McPeak should be in BOLD..with his RANK AND IMPORTANCE continuously placed on the ad...instead..viewer doesn't get it...I didn't...I'm a partisan Dem Viewer what about the real audience they are trying to reach?

6. I like your idea
of having his rank and name on the screen for longer... it could be easy to miss if you don't see the beginning of it... you should pass your comments on to the DNC...

7. I like it too. He was on the Al Franken show this week I believe.
I wish we'd see and hear more from this guy. If they have anything to say about it and he agrees, Kerry's team should put him on as many talk shows as possible.

3. Could it have been this one?
This is General McPeak former Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Republican who is voting for Kerry and campaigning for him as well.

4. McPeak isn't just some old guy. He's one of the most respected men to wear
a uniform in the last few decades.

Gen. McPeak is VERY significant because he is essentially a national security minded conservative who thinks Bush is making us less safe. He knows Kerry knows and understands the military in ways that Bush never could and Kerry has the COMMON SENSE that Bush never applied in any of his military decisions.

8. Yes...but why didn't I get that from the ad? The Marketing Director or Ad
Agency should be fired for not driving home WHO MCPEAK IS! Do you get it?

You don't sell detergent without identifying what the product you're seeling is. It might be that Kerry has some young clueless folks who forget about Brand Indentification...if so...it's his problem, not mine..I told you what I think...it's up to you to tell Kerry...I'm hoping my post here on DU will be a stovepipe into his campaign...LOL's like Skinner said...we are "Riff Raff."

10. Did you hear him on NPR last night? He was excellent.
He also went to War College (with McCain) and says McCain is a friend, but he's dead wrong.
