Oops - Palin's transparency proposal already exists in D.C.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/18/palins-transparency-proposal-already-exists-in-dc/

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) – Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online – somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

In 2006 and 2007, Obama teamed up with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn to pass the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, also known as “Google for Government.” The act created a free, searchable web site – USASpending.gov — that discloses to the public all federal grants, contracts, loans and insurance payments.

In June of this year, Obama and Coburn introduced new Senate legislation to expand the information available online to include details on earmarks, competitive bidding, criminal activities, audit disputes and other government information.

6. I just read this. Totally hilarious
What a complete bonehead. I couldn't imagine a dumber move.

Funny thing is, though, she'll keep repeating it and getting cheers for weeks.

9. You know, she's mentioned this more than once. This means the Obama campaign is failing to get that
message out....

or perhaps they are keeping their powder dry and will unload at the right time.

10. Transparency?
From the crook who illegally spent $50K turning her office into a whorehouse and then used Yahoo mail so she could hide her correspondence from FOIA requests.

12. I wish she'd save up some of these bonehead statements to spring during the debate.
Like a trial lawyer asking a question to which she doesn't know the answer.

At this rate, she's going to be out of naive statements before stepping on stage with Biden.

C'mon, Sarah. Keep a few "zingers" to get slapped down on when both sides are watching!

13. I just love that.
It really is annoying though that the Republicans basically keep copying Obama. You want an example of leadership? Just watch the Republicans fucking play Follow the Leader with Obama as the leader. It's crazy and stupid that no one comments on this. Even the language they are using is ripped off from Obama. Did anyone see the press conference the attention whoring Republicans held whining about the AIG bailout? They were saying crap like "Enough is enough!" and all this stuff that they usually make fun of "bleeding heart liberals" for.

So yeah, I wish more people would call the Republicans on their BS and their attempts at a pseudo-Democratic facade. At least it looks like there has been such a critical mass of just so much BS and lies that the media's actually pushing back with stuff like this.

17. Palin may not be a wordsmith, but
she clearly intended to say that the online gov't checkbook was an example of her executive experience and an example of the "few new things" she would "bring back to D.C." "For instance" clearly relates to the preceding sentence, which is a common and logical English practice to first state the claim then an example.

However, she stated a past action as governor as an example of new things she is "going to do." You cannot logically do something that you have already done. This would only make sense if "that kind of transparency" refers to the specific act of putting the federal government's checkbook online.

However, Palin will say that the big, bad, liberal media is unfairly attacking her verbiage.
