Palin Polling-NO Longer An Asset To The Ticket-In Fact-She May Be A Liability
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 12:53 PM by kpete
(ha ha)

Interesting Nate Silver analysis of trends in the presidential race, as the dust settles, including this: "McCain's other problem is that Sarah Palin may no longer be an asset to the ticket; in fact, she may be a liability. Averaging the candidates' favorability scores across four recent polls -- as one should always try and do when looking at favorability numbers since they can vary greatly depending on question wording -- Palin now has the worst net scores among the four principals in the race ...

Palin's average favorability score is now a +7 -- about 10 points behind Joe Biden's numbers. Perhaps more importantly, these numbers are 10-15 points behind where Palin's numbers were just a week or so ago. If voters come in not knowing very much about a candidate -- and the more they see of the candidate, the less they like of the candidate -- this is a major concern."

UPDATE to add:
Latest NYT/CBS Poll: Obama had the support of 48 percent of registered voters, compared with 43 percent for Mr. McCain

23. I can't take credit for it - I stole it from another DUer
although your picture should be of the Mars lander that crashed because half of the parts were metric and the other half were English and suppliers never communicated with each other

4. Has anything in politics been as predictable than this?
My answer is no. Palin was an empty skirt from the get go. Like most RWers, very lacking in judgement and intellect. Just more so.

9. The Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination ranks up there as well.
That was like a kiddie-ride rollercoaster at the fair -- no big surprises at how it came out in the end, and it didn't last long.

6. Good round-up, but the Daily KOS numbers are kind of obviously junk
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 12:54 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Including such a dramatic outlier in the table is a GIGO problem.

I haven't ever seen any favorability numbers ANYWHERE that are even close to what Research2000/KOS is putting out there.

22. I Said Here When She Was Announced
- two weeks! I did get scared when the media was so enamored with her and dissapointed that the DNC, the democratic 527s, Obama campaign, Hilary and women's groups - weren't screaming every hour "SUPREME COURT!" I still don't get why we are all not screaming SUPREME COURT! And, it is not just so called women's issues - which I believe are anyone who has a half of a brain cell functioning are everyone's issues. How about civil liberties, Imperial Presidency, Habeus Corpus, Guantonomo, Abu Graeb, wire-tapping, signing letters, voter supresion, and on and on and on!

And this is to say nothing about immoral wars, corruption, draining of the treasury by corporate thieves, the economy, jobs, healthcare, the environment, pollution, tainted food supply, cancer, heart disease, the wreck of the educational system - all of the Republican legacy - supported by the democratic enablers!

17. she's everything for the republicans that some here feared hillary would be for us
the oft-cited fear (valid or otherwise) reagrding a hillary nomination was that, while she would energize our base, she would also energize theirs, because they've developed a hatred for her that's been stewing for years.

it always struck me as an odd argument, at least once the major alternative became obama, who had the same potential ability to fire us up and yet rile them up at the same time.

in any event, it appears that the republicans managed to do to themselves what they were hoping would happen to us. in palin, they found someone who just might do more to energize their opposition than their own base!

18. Gotta throw out those Research 2000 numbers.
Definite outliers there.

Even with that she's running a good 7 points behind Biden. That ain't bad.

McCain runs a couple of points ahead of her, which shows you what our target should be.

Forget Palin. It's all about McCain.

But of course she's a liability, she's simply not qualified, and I'm not shocked that it took some time for that to all pan out.
