Palin Steals McCain Rally: People Walk Out After Her Speech in Cedar Rapids
Palin Steals McCain Rally: People Walk Out After Her Speech
Radio Iowa | September 18, 2008 12:53 PM

I arrived on scene about an hour and a half before the event is to start. The traffic along I-380 was starting to get dicey, folks waiting in line to enter the parking area and wait for a shuttle to the airplane hanger where the rally will take place.

The McCain campaign set up tables and erected a white tent outside the hanger and relegated local print and radio reporters like yours truly outside. This is my view of the stage.

...

I look up, about five minutes into McCain's address and see a steady stream of people walking out of the rally. They just came to see Palin apparently.

1. Watching the TV coverage =
and only a couple of minutes into the speech you heard women shouting "WE WANT SARAH! WE WANT SARAH!" I wonder how McCain must be feeling these days. First the cheers for Obama '08 yesterday in Detroit, now he's being upstaged by his pick. lol

He's the Rodney Dangerfield of politics.

8. "He's the Rodney Dangerfield of politics."
I don't get no respect! The other day I went to my doctor. He said he wanted a complete physical and needed a urine sample, a stool sample, and a semen sample. So I left him my underwear and went home!

One of my all-time favorite Dangerfield lines! But Rodney makes me laugh. With McCain, I just feel embarrassed and shame that he is "the best and the brightest" our country, or more specifically the GOP, can offer...

16. He had a rough childhood too.
His mom refused to breast feed him. She said she wanted to just be friends.

18. Yeah, you think that's bad? His dad used to pay him his allowance in traveler's checks...

2. How Palin's appeal looks to some people in Canada
Today in Faux news they were going ape about how horrible this article in Canada was and how the author should not be allowed to write it in a Canadian publicly supported venue.

19. In-teresting! Thanks for posting, LittleApple!
<snip>

"Palin was not a sure choice, not even for the stolidly Republican ladies branch of Citizens for a Tackier America. No, she isn't even female really. She's a type, and she comes in male form too."

<snip>

"When Palin and Rudy Giuliani sneered at Obama's years of "community organizing" — they said it like "rectal fissure" — the audience ewww-ed with them. Republicans dream of a personal future that involves only household staff, not equals who need to be persuaded to vote."

<snip snip>

"American politics isn't short of smart women. Susan Eisenhower, Ike's granddaughter, who just endorsed Obama, made an extraordinary speech at the Democratic convention (and a terrific casual appearance on The Colbert Report as Palin was speaking). The Republican party has already consumed nearly all of its moderate "seed corn," she said aptly. Time to start again.

Eisenhower, a scholar and journalist, has a point. Or am I only saying that because she's part of the thoughtful demographic that I'm trying to reach here? Think, Heather, think like a Republican! The Skeptics, shall I call them, are my base, and I'll pander to them as ardently as the Republican patriarchs tease their white female marginals."

12. The opening act is U2, the headliner is Boxcar Willie
I would leave after the opening act, too. (No offense to U2, I just needed the name of a popular act to make my analogy)

20. Who thinks they are activating the megachurch phone tree's and
telling parishioners that they have to go to the rally's, so it will look
like they have some type of audience? and they still can't fill all the
seats. Isn't that some kinda IRS violation? Hmmm...
