Obama/Biden will lose...is what I tell myself
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 12:21 PM by maseman
Hear me out.

That is what I keep telling myself after reading the great polls from yesterday and today. I think we all need to tell ourselves this as a motivation to keep working 110% to get our wonderful two people elected. I want to win by 10%, not 2%. In addition it makes voter fraud, voter caging, voting software fixing, etc. more likely when it is close.

I feel great about our position TODAY. However I still think about the destruction of a McCain/Palin White House, Cabinet, Supreme Court which makes me donate another $50, talk to a few more neighbors, sign a few more people up to drive to vote.

Edit post title for clarity on my point.

13. You opinion is that Obama/Biden will lose?
Here we have just come back up in the polls, and you are encouraging that we be pessimistic?

:wtf:

In Close Contests, poor Democratic morale was Enough to Swing the Election

Don't let Polls Manipulate Morale here at DU. We are better than that, so say NO, Not This Time!

18. Of course not
Some people, like me, have a raging burning fire when I am in trouble mode. Flight versus fight. When I think trouble mode I think more strategically. The old "don't rest on your laurels" syndrome.

I am tired of losing just like EVERYONE else on DU the past eight years. (Yes 2006 was a nice win...but overall it has been rough.)

When the polls are down people claim "They're fixed, right-wing bullshit, Americans are stupid, focus on the real poll Nov. 4th", etc. When we're up in the polls they are accurate, spot on, blah blah.

It is one thing to look at the trends and say "yes we are making nice in-roads." It is another to say "Now that we are up let's work even harder to blow this fucker out of the water."

20. I don't think you actually make sense, and considering
that since joining in November of 2004, you have relatively few posts, considering.

I'll keep you in mind in the future......in reference to determining your agenda.

Till then.

22. I don't around all day with nothing to do posting on DU
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 12:23 PM by maseman
Kids, wife, work, hobbies, etc.

Posting counts have nothing to do with agendas my friend. A new DUer with 100 posts doesn't have a different agenda than you. I read stuff here EVERYDAY and have for years. I am out there working my ass off for Obama/Biden. I have donated three times as much to their campaign as have have ever donated.

Measuring someone's agenda by DU post counts is nuts.

I still think your headline sucks like shit, and does nothing to help us in anyway.

Good that you at least edited your headline.

Considering that we are already fighting an all powerful media, and also racism as promoted by again, this media......I don't think we need any assistances in understanding that we must work twice as hard to get Obama/Biden Elected.

But go ahead and continue with your negativity and your claims that it "helps". Go ahead my friend.

3. That motives some and discourages others.
But we can all agree that we want a more comfortable margin of victory than the 2%.

4. some folks on our side need the encouragement the new polls provide
I know what you're saying, but I also believe we generate interest and support when we project our campaign as a winning one.

8. No doubt about it
The polls are very favorable as of today. It is kind of like people in the sales industry. Some perform better when they are not hittiong their numbers and other perform better when they are above their targeted goal. I naturally tend to want to releax a little once I have achieved my sales goals but have to work harder to keep myself motivated.

10. I just secured my Father.
Two time Bush voter and swing voter. (Financial conservative...not social.)

His kids have been working him over (all 4 of us) for the past 8 years and the economy is the final straw. Sarah Palin was the last straw. He's finally listening to

-his older son's repetition of how the Republicans are NOT good for the ecnonomy and the need to invest in future industries and infrastructure,

-his younger son's screaming of how they are trying to bring about a Christian fundementalist state,

-his older daughters' pleas to keep abortion safe and legal,

-and his younger daughter's sad stories about the state of the medical system that she must work in every day.

This is a man who was banking on Romney as an economicly sound VP. We can turn the non-family values financial conservatives. They are the ones who will listen. They are the ones who are finally able to see the truth.

Too many educated folks leaving for economic reasons leaving the religions nutcases to exploit the hard times.

Industry, infrastructure, and education can bring it back.

The polls have just starting turning around for us on Tuesday, and yet, you are claiming for your headline the scenario that should be each and every person on DU's worst nightmare....and you do it all under the guise of not wanting to be cocky?

Meanwhile, the Corporate media continues to prop up the McCain/Palin nightmare ticket.

Claiming to generate negativity in order to keep us working is ridiculous.

I don't see the Obama campaign endorsing your approach. Momentum gains momentum...especially this many days ahead of the vote. Your post and attitude....not so much.

17. Obama COULD lose
Saying he WILL lose doesn't fire anyone up, it just demoralizes them.

There are several weeks to go and debates still being planned, though. Anything could happen, especially if they get desperate enough. It's important not to be at all complacent, but be confident and not self-defeating.

24. If Obama keeps up the attacks on McCain, he will win
and will bury the Republicans. Obama can not let off the attacks; he has to keep piling them on. Yes, he also has to tell voters his vision for America, but it must be accompanied by solid hard hitting attacks. Over the last few days, Obama's and Biden's attacks against McCain and the Republicans have been on target and strong. That is why the polls are turning Obama's way. The economic woes are also helping Obama and because he's on the offensive now, he's reaping the benefits from American anger at Bush bailing out the Corporate robber barons.

It's great to be ahead, but we can't become complacent. It's always important to act as "if" we were behind in the polls. . .

Some get so "high" on good polls. I saw good polls in 2004 and we lost. None of us need that again.

27. We can take heart from the polls as they stand today
but we need to campaign like we are down by 20 points!

Complacency kills, and we can enjoy our new laurel wreaths as we are entltled to do. It's when we make a futon out of them that we have a problem.
