Ex-Republican For Obama (Lincoln Chafee)
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 10:44 AM by Tesibria
Context for Journal Entries: I'm in the process of compiling all the columns/articles written by "conservatives" either (a) against McCain/Palin, or (b) for Obama/Biden. Yes, I know that many are frequently posted in the Editorials or Other Articles. However, they're always mixed in with the many articles on other topics and I, personally want a "set" all in one place, for easy reference when discussing issues with conservatives. So, I'm posting them in my journal.

Chafee Endorses Obama
By: Jeff Zeleny, New York Times/The Caucus Blog, Feb. 14, 2008

Lincoln Chafee, a former Republican Senator from Rhode Island, said today that he is changing party registration – at least on primary day next month – and endorsing Senator Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy.

“I believe Senator Obama is the best candidate to restore American credibility, to restore our confidence to be moral and to bring people together to solve the complex issues such as the economy, the environment and global stability,” Mr. Chafee said in a conference call with reporters today.

Per other DU-ers' requests, I've cross-posted links only in the Research Forum: Conservatives Against McCain/Palin and Conservatives For Obama/Biden.

4. Yeah, he doesn't really fit the bill.
He's a member of an almost extinct race, the New England liberal Republican, as was his father.

7. I've changed the headling accordingly - thanx for the correction ...
... I still think it's meaningful when a (former) Republican switches parties and endorses Obama, but I agree with you that he's not a conservative. I was trying to keep consistent headings, but it ended up being "misleading" in this context. Thanks again for keeping me honest!

2. Chafee is a candy ass who inherited his senate seat from his dad and didn't have the sense to become
a Dem.

He'd still be in the senate if he had changed parties.

Dumb ass. Whitehouse is so much better!

5. He's a Moderate ex-Republican
He's a Moderate ex-Republican (not a social conservative) from an old-style of moderate Eastern establishment Republicans that are fast fading from the national scene, having been replaced by social conservatives.
