The Real Scoop On Palin’s Staged Town Hall Meeting — Another Pretend Moment!

So, what was the catch? Unlike most town-hall events, which are open to the public, include diverse crowds, and no one needs an advance invitation, this event was for ticket-holders only. And the only way to get a ticket was through the local Republican Party, after an advance RSVP. No wonder Palin was prepared to play "stump the candidate" — it was a very friendly crowd that had no interest in testing her.

It doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence in the candidates’ ability to answer tough questions, does it?

3. kpete, is it just me or do Palin's answers sound like she's a 'Miss Alaska' contestant?
Particularly the 'foreign policy' answer. Anyone have the tape?

5. Readiness is the word I think she tossed out while dancing
around that issue almost to the point of embarrassment as in I was so embarrassed for you...

6. Oh, I think she's definately reliving her Miss Alaska days
she is trying like mad to stay on script. This is a typical Rove campaign (regardless of whether Rove is directly involved or not) in which you pick a couple of issues, stick to script and never, ever deviate from it.

Biggest problem, the script isn't worth shit. It's a real bad B-movie and now that the first few scenes are over, people are starting to realize it and are starting to regret ever buying a ticket to it thinking that it would be Oscar worthy.

7. Email the MSM
Ask them why they refuse to cover THIS story - why they are willing to let the republicans candidates speak to only other republicans and pretend that its not a completely phony event.

8. The press should call it a "Republican Hall Meeting"
...instead of a "Town Hall Meeting" since only supporters of the Republican Party were welcome.

10. Sounds like one of those Bush "town hall meetings" they held to try and sell
his social security privatization scheme (which McCrash still supports, by the way). It's been said before and it's worth saying again: She's Bush with lipstick.

13. Randi Kaye, but she mentioned this last night on Anderson 360.
She says it seemed unusual with this crowd of people the questions. The questions were not tough as though the people weren't taking it seriously or they didn't seem urgent where a lot of the time McCain didn't bothered. In most other places, she says, when people were taking the economy seriously the questions were really hard. (paraphrased)

She kept on implying that she things the set up was rigged. She was like they were too sweet and easy questions. Nothing that could stump someone and most of the time the answers by McCain/Palin were RARELY on point.

15. New email compares Palin to Obama
Here's a new email that is circulating, comparing Palin to Obama:

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic,
different, un-American.'
Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, and you're the quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're labeled a maverick.

If you spend 3 years right after college as a brilliant community
organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review,
create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend
12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State
Senator representing a district with over 350,000 people, become chairman
of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years
in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people
while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment
and Public Works and Veterans' Affairs committees, you don't have any real
leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council
and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 6,000 people, 20 months
as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified
to become the country's second highest ranking executive, and potentially President.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2
beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your
disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, while your unwed
teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a
prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner-city
community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't
represent America's.

If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI
conviction, who didn't register to vote until age
25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska
from the USA, your family is extremely admirable
and patriotic.

OK, it's all much clearer now.

20. She wasn't prepared to play "stump the candidate."
Even a ticket-holding-only crowd was able to stump her:

Asked for "specific skills" she could cite to rebut critics who question her grasp of international affairs, she replied, "I am prepared."

"I have that confidence. I have that readiness," Palin said. "And if you want specifics with specific policies or countries, you can go ahead and ask me. You can play 'stump the candidate' if you want to. But we are ready to serve."
