I am that 50 PLUS PLUS PLUS.. who was hoping to retire at 66..But with all the good things McCain and his dereg supporters have done for me, I may be working till I am 80.

For those who are younger, the markets should clear out, they have before, and no reason not to think they will not again..but for those of us on this age cusp, we are getting batted around and butted around by the results of republican malfeasance with the economy.

They do this to us every time. When you think about the big hits the economy has taken, it is nearly always under a republican administration that deregulates to the point that the economy falls apart.

The democrats go back in, stabilize it, put in programs (but always with a way to pay for it) and the hell hounds start yelling about how we need to dereg again.

Well here I am, the end result of their mucking around, without ever putting in a safety net.

Wish me luck.. and I hope the damage is not too great. ~sigh~ How many more days till we kick the bums out??????

1. You've got courage. I haven't looked at mine in two weeks and
I don't plan to look any time soon. I'm scared to death and also 60+.

10. Social Choice is a balanced fund that is supposed to pick
its stocks and bonds, with the environment and social aspects (how things are made, do they use labor that is paid a living wage etc)as the underlying criteria to be in that fund.

3. Funny. My father who just told me that he met with his financial adviser
to check on his retirement also asked about his TIAA-CREF. I'm going to check on mine as well just to be sure.

7. Maybe
"For those who are younger, the markets should clear out, they have before, and no reason not to think they will not again..but for those of us on this age cusp, we are getting batted around and butted around by the results of republican malfeasance with the economy."

The markets were in approximately the same place that in 1948 that they were in 1932...The markets were exactly in the same place in 1982 as they were in 1964...That's a long time to wait.*

*My numbers might be a bit off because I'm working from memory but I am confident in the thrust of my argument....

8. Oh My, its even worse than I thought.
If I hear one more republican meme on privatizing social security I think I will scream.. Besides if they did that, the country would fall apart. The only thing keeping us afloat is the governments ability to borrow on the ss funds coming in that is the collateral that is used to get money from China etc.

11. The Market Goes Up Over Time
But there have been periods in history as long as up to twenty or so years between top to bottom and back again...

12. I've lost about 17% of my 401K from it's high last July.
Considering what we're going through I figure that's not bad.
