11. Would have been better if Harry and Louise told the story
The Dems need to learn to turn their ads into storylines, not laundry lists of issues or reasons not to support the other candidate. Human brains are wired for stories. That's how we remember things best and stories elicit emotional responses. That's why the Defenders of Wildlife "Wolf" ad was powerful -- http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/16/215837/741/954/601120. It told a very provocative and emotional story in 30 seconds.

21. I have the Audacity of Cynicism about Obama because
I don't trust his neoliberal positions on the economy and foreign policy. While they are much better than the Republicasn because the Republicans real goal is to dismantle our government for us little folks, I don't agree with him on his Clintonesque positions. I see Obama becoming Bill Clinton ver. 2.0. While Bill was better than the Republicans, Bill did get NAFTA passed and free trade is working Americans bane. And Bill is still a big proponent of free trade. He's an unofficial lobbyist for Columbia and the murderous President Uribe.

I think Obama will disappoint a lot of Democrats who support him today because they willingly overlook his real positions. I just hope that the Progressive Movement and Labor can rise up and challenge Rubin's disciples that make up Obama's economic staff. Obama and his pro-corporate economic team will bristle at being challenged, buty hey, this is a democracy and we should not trust anyone with power. That's what James Madison told us.

Once elected, Obama is going to move much farther to the left; not the other way around.

19. ...and I don't necessarily disgaree with you that ...
"Harry and Louise" would have been better. I think that's a great idea. But look at the reality. They probably wanted to get an ad out while Wall Street crisis is in full bloom to maximize impact. Just something simple that gets out the facts about McCain's votes to privatize.

Now that the subject has been broached, they should perhaps get down to business and make a story-based ad for that final stretch in October.

You just always seem to look at the downside of things.

27. I'm glad that Obama is on the offesive now
He needed to do it this month. Waiting much longer would have been a disaster, but they can still fine tune their ads.

I volunteered for the Ned Lamont campaign in 2006 and one of the big mistakes his campaign made was waiting until October to go on the attack against Lieberman. In October the TV channels were overflowing with ads from 2 major Congressional races as well as some local races. Lamont's ads got drowned out by the others and CT voters got overwhelmed real fast with all the political ads.

I think Obama is a better leader than the Obama fanatics give him credit for. Obama is open to listening to criticism. From what I heard him say during the primary, he welcomes differing viewpoints. That's one of the traits I do like about Obama and I hope he does practice what he preaches after getting into the White House. If he does, then the Progressive Movement and Labor should do well with him. But until then, I'm with David Sirota, Rachel Maddow, and Keith Olberman -- Obama is not perfect and needs criticism to make him a better leader.

One of the other big mistakes Lamont made during the general election was not replacing the woman who set his schedule. She went down with Lyme disease 2 weeks after the August 8, 2006 primary and had a nasty case of it. She not only did his schedule but she listened to us local leaders in the field for input. In September 2006 I was hearing complaints from Democrats in my area that Lamont was not doing enough to counter Lieberman's attacks and some Democrats were willing to host a Town Hall forum for him so that area voters of all types could meet him personally and ask him questions. The Lamont campaign made the fatal mistake of not replacing their ill-stricken scheduler with another person. They did it by committee, so when us in the field were sending in requests, ideas, and concerns about the campaign, they landed in a black hole. After the November 2006 election, I found out from my peers in other CD's that they had the same experience as me, so not listening to field leaders was not done by the Lamont campaign and that led them to making bad decisions. During the primary, the campaign, thanks to the scheduler, did listen to those of us in the field and because of that they made good adjustments to their campaign and went from 59 points down in March 2006 to defeating Lieberman by 4 on August 8, 2006.

33. McCain voted to turn Social Security $ over to Wall Street
Remember that the McCain voted for the Repub Plan to hand over a large percentage of the Social Security funds to these bozos.

Put all of Grandma's food money on 23 Black - I feel lucky.
----

http://www.aflcio.org/issues/politics/mccain_retirement.cfm

"McCain Voted for Bush’s 2006 Social Security Privatization Plan. In 2006, McCain voted for the Social Security Reserve Fund. The proposal would shift Social Security’s annual surpluses into a reserve account that would be converted into risky private accounts.

In 2000 McCain Wanted to Divert Social Security Money to Private Accounts. The Wall Street Journal reported that " centerpiece of a McCain presidential bid in 2000 was a plan to divert a portion of Social Security payroll taxes to fund private accounts, much as President Bush proposed unsuccessfully." The plan would put workers’ retirement money into the risky market and reduce the amount of Social Security payments they would receive from the government. The plan would undermine the Social Security system.

McCain STILL Proposes Privatizing Social Security—Despite What His Website Says. McCain told the Wall Street Journal he still backs a system of private retirement accounts that he supported in 2000 and President Bush pushed unsuccessfully. The Journal reported he "disowned" details of a proposal on his 2008 campaign website that says he would "supplement" the existing Social Security system with personally managed accounts. But when asked about the position change he denied it and promised to change the website to reflect his true position. "I’m totally in favor of personal savings accounts... As part of Social Security reform, I believe that private savings accounts are a part of it—along the lines that President Bush proposed," McCain told the Journal."
