First if you were going to anonymously hack a email site it would be this one.

https://webmail.alaska.gov/Exchange/

All I had to do to find it is search google for 'alaska.gov' and 'webmail'. My first guess.

The other reason is nothing was gained by the information, a hacker would have taken it all. It wasn't hacked.

2. Yep, didn't even look like there was anything in there.
This lets them play the victim and make it look like she had nothing to hide. Look, they hacked my yahoo account and they still didn't find any dirt.

3. You guys here are seriously paraniod.
Anonymous hacked it because it's funny. There wasn't an agenda. Exposing Palin's circumvention of FOIA, either intentionally or because she doesn't understand computer security, is funny for 1337 skript kiddies.

They're the same 4chan group that hacked Scientology and posted all of their top-secret faerie tales. They do it for giggles, like everything else that's on 4chan.

Nothing nefarious. Not everything done is because of party lines or elections. And no, I'm not some low-post-count troll.

7. Not a hack, motivation is all wrong....
A hacker only wants to impress others like them. If they care at all. It isn't funny.

9. That's not true at all.
There are so many reasons to hack things.

In tech jobs, many times there are IT settings, or program settings that keep you from doing your job efficiently, so you hack them. I've personally done that. I'd steal system resources to get my job done, and while it wasn't something we were supposed to be doing, I couldn't do my job any other way.

Anonymous hacks things to be funny. If you've never heard of 4chan, it's a website that's full of crap, but every now and again you'll find a nugget of comedy gold. Anonymous hacking Scientology was one of those nuggets. It's what they do. There's no agenda, except maybe making people look stupid so that we can laugh at them. The governor of a state using something as easily hacked as a Yahoo address is an example of something that's funny. Maybe hacking it wasn't the right thing to do, but it fits in with what 4chan is all about.

11. So many reasons but only the bullshit one we were told matters.
It is a ruse from the shit flower outsourcing department.

12. No, it isn't.
If Carl Rove asked someone at anonymous to do this (and we're assuming here that he has some way to contact them personally), they'd post his email in its entirety, and probably ask 4chan to mail bomb him. Cause that'd be really funny.

You. Are. Being. Paranoid.

4. Bad play on their part, then. It's the Paris Hilton Blackberry all over again.
Besides, using Yahoo.com to conduct official government business? Tut, tut...

6. If they were going for sympathy, don't you think they'd have gone
for something a little more understood and high-profile than "OMG HAXXORED EMAIL!"?
