keyes attacks cheney's daughter for being gay
This is from drudge (don't worry, I always shower after I go to his site):

Keyes Criticizes Cheney's Lesbian Daughter
Tue Aug 31 2004 23:04:55 ET

Alan Keyes, the Republican candidate for a vacant U.S. Senate seat in Illinois, said Tuesday that Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter Mary is a "selfish hedonist" because she is a lesbian.

His comments came during an interview with OutQ, a satellite radio station.

Keyes said: "The essence of ... family life remains procreation. If we embrace homosexuality as a proper basis for marriage, we are saying that it's possible to have a marriage state that in principal excludes procreation and is based simply on the premise of selfish hedonism."

Asked whether that meant Mary Cheney "is a selfish hedonist," Keyes said: "That goes by definition. Of course she is."

So does Chimpy or Cheney go to Illinois and appear on a podium with this guy?

Those who can no longer bear children are selfish hedonists too. Lets put all the old men in one camp and all the old women in another. When they can no longer do the menial jobs we assign, we'll kill them.

Can you tell I just watched "The Handmaid's Tale" for a third time?

38. I love Alan Keyes!
Keyes is the sort of throwback to the Dark Ages in Europe when people were burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft and for heresy.

I love Alan Keyes because everytime he open his mouth he scares the hell out of people, including many Republicans. Obama will win in a bipartisan landslide!

About half of whom are gay and half of whom aren't. The eleventh could be bi, as far as I know. Mr B "came out," oh, fifteen years ago -- to the surprise of absolutely no one.
Can't speak to Alan Keyes, but I don't see what marriage and sexuality have to do with one another.

19. At Least Keyes Is Honest
Most Republicans won't admit they really feel the same about homosexuals.

When Conservatives make statements like this, they truly hurt me - I feel personally insulted. As I am unable to bear children, is my marriage somehow not as good because procreation is now excluded? Is he a "selfish hedonist" to stay married to me rather than to divorce me for a real (fertile) woman?

I am so saddened and angry when I hear things like this.
And I don't just think of myself, I feel bad for same sex couples who love each other and only want the same rights as other citizens, to be treated like everyone else.

45. Don't be insulted and hurt.
I can't tell you how to feel, of course, and I wish things were as you would want them to be. I too, don't one effing bit appreciate the quality of my long-time partnership reduced to whether or not the sex we have is designed to make children. Who in the wide world would presume to make that kind of judgment upon other people when they are simply trying to love each other and take care of each other? Gender and age and financial circumstances and desires for a fulfilling future and health issues simply put us on the margins and deprive us of a legally protected union with our loved ones? Fuck that.

Here is my idea, not original.

So Alan, sing it out! Say it loud! Say it often! Over and over! We can foster every media; TV, internet, print, radio, to get your message across. I think every dipshit in this country needs to hear precisely what the wonderful Republican party comes up with in a pinch.

Um, by "pinch" I'm not talking about a B.M.

Or, am I? It's late

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:22 PM by RevRussel
Please do take a little time (I have), and listen to one of his harangues through a couple of times. Honesty doesn't even get to present itself. There is so much psychotic bowel movement swirling around in his mental swamp, I find myself holding my breath a little. I've tried to examine that and haven't come up with any thing conclusive, but it is still there and it's palpable. Definitely repulsive with a kind of fascination... Not lying, exactly, but absolutely not honest.

61. Honest On This Issue
I mean, this is what the majority of Republicans feel, that if sex isn't don't to procreate it is selfish and hedonistic. They just won't say it. They'd probably deny it if you asked them, but deep down, this is the message.

What scares me is not that Alan Keyes may be a Republican whack job but that he may be a mainstream Republican.

20. Keyes still thinks...
... he represents the mainstream. The polls say otherwise.

Obama will probably get four times as many votes as does Alan.

That won't stop him from saying the same ol' shit he's been spouting for years.

Keyes is too stupid to realize he's already lost the election, let alone realize he's a lost soul.

In the `60s, there was an expression that made a lot of sense: cream rises. Obama is rising, Keyes is sinking.

and he said he believed he could win and that he didn't believe the polling company figures. He wanted to know what % of people were being polled, like % liberals, moderates, etc. The pollers would not supply the info. He does say he represents the mainstream and that Obama is an left wing extremist. (He never mentions why his 4 past runs for office never get many voters).

54. That Keyes doesn't believe the polling...
... doesn't surprise me--it's the classic Repug tactic to act as the injured party, as the disenfranchised in the contest.

Keyes has about the same association with Illinois as Bush has with the truth, but that won't stop him from persisting. When he loses, he'll bitch and moan for about a day, and then move back to Maryland, from whence he came. And, though it need not be said, they're welcome to him.

58. Keyes is a true jerk
but he represents the antichoice, religious right, anti- separation of church of state, pro gun, etc crowd so well, they keep him in his mansion and they keep him going. There are a lot of these people out there, something I did not know 2 years ago. Illinois will turn him out but he will just resurrect himself somewhere else. I don't like the way he is bashing Obama, all the damn lies time after time he gets in front of a camera. It is the same way Bush has won. So to me Keyes is a very dangerous fellow; he has that very solid base and it keeps getting larger as the country is tending to shift right from the center. He won't make it in Illinois this time, but somewhere else in 2 years, I wouldn't put it past him that he wins a congressional seat somewhere.

59. Listen up all you post-menopausal women and sterile people
Keyes basically just said gay marriage is selfish because gay men and women can't have biological children of their own (well, technically even that isn't true with lesbian couples using sperm donors). Does this also mean that any woman who has gone through menopause, or any man or woman who is sterile, should also be denied a marriage license? After all, if you can ban two men from marrying by saying they can't have children, why should my mom, who had a hysterectomy 5 yrs ago, be allowed to remarry?

Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 06:47 AM by terrya
This idea that marriage is strictly for procreation.

Are the childless heterosexual marriages (those couples who either can't or won't have children) then invalidated under Mr. Keyes' thinking? For instance, same-sex marriage opponent Pat Buchanan. The Buchanans are childless. Is their marriage invalid under this "marriage is for procreation only" concept?
