that I've heard today was him blasting Obama for having Jim Johnson (Former head of Fannie Mae) as head of his V.P. selection committee. Is this seriously, the best he could come up with today? Besides my misgivings on Johnson lets examine some issues with what McCain is saying. 1.)It's a V.P.s selection head, not an economic advisory like Phill Gramm, a person with a likely future critical role in his administration (McCain mused a while ago about having Gramm as Secretary of the Tresury IIRC). The responsibility and influence of a V.P. selection head in relation to the campaign can only be realistically judged by the qualifications of the person who ultimately becomes V.P., of course for Johnson this can't even be used because....
2.)He was stripped of that role before the selection was made and is no longer associated with the campaign in any official capacity IIRC. Now let's say that even after 1 and 2, you still think Johnson is a should be used as a representation of Obama's current attitude towards the housing crisis well....
3.)Johnson was the head of Fannie Mae 10 YEARS AGO. The organization was doing far better then relative to now, and the influence of Johnson in bringing on the current mess, is debatable to say the least. It's even less certain because the rules of the "game" changed since he left as a result of.....
4.)The Repeal of the Glass Steagal Act in 1999. Now I don't Johnson's role in helping the legislation to be passed, but even if he had a role, so did McCain's CURRENT economic advisor Phil Gramm who cosponsored the bill to repeal the act (Gramm-Leach-Bliley bill), and also for McCain himself who voted for it. Either way it is clear that the people after him had way more tools to screw things up, and importantly they DID screw things up, and John McCain helped (and just for the sake of Argument lets set aside Clinton's role in this as it's not directly tied to Obama anyway)
