True Lies.....Arnold was praising the liberal side of America
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:57 PM by Armstead
From as much as I could stand, Arnold was praising the aspects of America that are liberal, fer chrissake.

The Peace Corps, international assistance, welcoming immigrants, praising diversity, opportunity for all --- This is all stuff that the right wing hates. If it were up to conservatives, none of that stuff would exist.

Jeezez this is massively deceptive propaganda.

1. And here I thought the RNC was all about no
Negative attacks. there's been more attacks on Dems these past two days than there were in the whole DNC convention on the GOP.

2. liberals welcome immigrants?
that's not what I hear on this board. A lot of working class DUers seem to want to restrict immigration because of jobs.

And Republicans love cheap labor. And I know some very conservative Peace Corps volunteers (conservative, but they're against Bush) Yes, they hate international assistance. And Republicans seriously beleive that they are for equal opportunity for all, but not equal results. Dems strive for more equal results via social programs.

3. Which begs the question
Why can't someone like Arnold pick the Democratic Party? He's here on social issues. Maybe we're the party who needs a bigger tent. I'm more an Arnold type so that makes me right of most here but where's the Arnold equivilent at the DNC?

4. Democrats lost the populist spirit
There's conservative populism and liberal porogressive populism.

Frank Capra movies are liberal populist. Howard Dean became a liberal populist.

The populists aren't really really in control of either party. The strings are pulled by the elite for the benefit of the elite. Bush is an elitist, so is Kerry.

The Democrats POLICIES are somewhat more progressive populist, but the GOP has the IMAGE of populism.

Unless the Democrats realize that their best future is liberal progressive populism, and find someone who can also carry off the image of that, our side is going to continue to fumble and stumble.
