The "Daisy" ad.
What if McCain/Palin win, McCain keels over, and Sister Sarah becomes the prez. I can't think of a more frightening scenario.

Although far too many Americans aren't aware of it, Palin is an "end-timer" who expects Jesus and Satan to duke it out in the "final battle." Of course Jesus wins, true believers float up to heaven, and all non-believers end up in Hell. And she believes it's going to happen in our lifetimes.

There are countless numbers of ignorant people who know nothing about her beliefs, and there are countless fundies who agree with the insanity of her "end-times" beliefs.

Is this really the most important election in history. You bet your ass it is.

So how do we win it? The Thugs are already in full swing with their voter disenfranchisement tactics. Their lies are becoming transparent, but there are still far too many who believe them. Sorry, but I'm a cynic and I don't believe our telephone calling and door knocking will be enough to swing the election.

In 1964, Lyndon Johnson ran an ad that was the single most important factor in winning that election against Barry Goldwater who was considered to be a war monger. The ad showed a little girl picking daisies. A voice over started a countdown from ten to one. The ad ended in a nuclear cloud.

Many called the ad a disgrace, despicable, and every other name in the book. But Barry Goldwater never got near the nuclear "button."

You can disagree with me in every way possible, but I think that Obama needs to run an ad similar to that one. It was called "The Daisy Ad," and it's needed today more than ever. Better to win "ugly" than to let Palin anywhere near the White House.

1. No, you're right. And unfortunately, we've got to take on the 'winning ugly' thing if necessary.
And btw, I just checked out the lyrics to the Stones' 'Winning Ugly'... I think (hope!) they're poking fun at the Right in this song. They do mention 'look out for number one, my country right or wrong'.

2. I wish this ad was on YouTube for everone to see.
It's far more appropriate today than it was back then.

4. Thanks for the link, seemukee
Everyone should watch it. And they then should ponder what would happen if we lose this election to a man who sees himself as a "macho hero," and a woman who believes that she's helping to fulfill "God's Plan."

I don't think that even McCain is far gone enough to "push the button." But, Palin? Does any sane person really want to take this risk?

5. I propose an ad that starts with McCain's vow to

remain in Iraq for "100 years" (on "Meet the Press" a couple months ago).

CUT TO: the footage of the little girl pulling petals off the daisy as the countdown begins

CUT TO: McCain's comments about how he hates gooks, has always hated gooks and always will hate gooks.

CUT TO: the girl pulling petals off the daisy morphing into mushroom cloud as a VOICEOVER intones: "The future is too important to entrust to Ignorance and Hatred. Obama will bring Change we Can Believe In."

I have heard that our beloved Bill Moyers had a hand in the creation of the original Daisy ad. (I do not know if this is true and it may be merely apocryphal.) If so, wonder whether Moyers might be willing to resurrect it for a 'second run'?

8. Can we throw a Daisy ad at McCain?
As far as I'm concerned, portraying him as a mad warmonger is fair game.

Lots of mushroom clouds, maybe a few scenes out of Dr. Strangelove...
