I am the admin of another, totally non-politics related message board. But we have a thread about the election. Most of the posters tend to be apathetic about the whole thing with most all of them leaning toward the right. They were typical unenthused Republicans who weren't sure if they'd even vote for until the great moose shooter showed up two weeks ago and breathed some life into them. Anyway, I'm TRYING to put some sense into them. Below is a post of mine from today ......... i'm wanting any advice on what I could have added or said differently. I have thick skin, fire away!!
*****************************************
The issue is not literally that John McCain has 8 houses or the fact that Barack only owns one home and rents an apt. in DC (although he plans to soon give that apt. up.) The issue, as you well know, is that John McCain, is, by his own admission "divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.." (9/11/08.)
It is my firm belief that Obama is a much more in touch ......... you learn a lot about people, what they need and that's important to them ..... when you're being a community organizer.
My admiration for Bill Clinton comes not with the way his conducted his social life but how he ran his country. But the PROBLEM I have ..... and this may be one of those regional things because I live in the Crimson-colored Bible belt, but Bush supporters held him up a the moral saviour of America.
And so we put Bush in office ....... or the Supreme Court did rather ...... and now 4,000 American men and women are dead as a result (and counting.) I dont even know the numbers of Iraqis.
I'll take adultery over murder any day.
This is why I want to emphasize how IMPORTANT we take this decision, that it not be based solely on emotion or based on how a particular candidate makes us feel or fits into our idealized version of what the American president should look like. Each of us need to look at the issues, see where these candidates stand and make sure that the man we are sending into the White House, and the man and woman we are potentially sending in to back them up, is TRULY the man who best represents our beliefs and vision for how best to heal the current state of this wonderful country.
If you want to vote for John McCain, fine, but make sure you are doing so because you believe the rich should be taxed less than the poor, that you believe in supporting the business owner instead of the worker, because you are willing to allow our troops to stay in Iraq indefinitely and you are willing to continue to plunder this beautiful earth God has given us simply to feed our own greed for cheaper gas.
Vote for Sarah Palin if you want to but do so knowing that you are putting someone one heart beat away from the presidency who's .......... who's ....... heck! I still don't even know what her policy beliefs are ........... all I know is that she has continually been less than forthcoming in her speeches (which makes her a great politician I guess) and her religious views scare the crap out of me (and I dare say I'm a lot more religiously conservative than the average American.)
Vote with your head, not with heart ....... that's all I'm saying.

Any advice is appreciated!
