Am I just fucking paranoid?
Or does anyone else feel like this election is slipping away? I know some of these polls are nothing more than bullshit but I also know masses of people take the MSM as truth with no exceptions. I'm just worried, please reassure me.

Actually, the question is: Are we paranoid enough?

12. I guess it doesn't help...
When in the 500 square mile county I live in I see at least 500 McCain signs and I know of ONE other Obama sign other than the one I display in my front yard.

I kid you not.

about (no joke) 50:1. This is a deep red district owing to it's rural past, but with the new influx of homes it won't stay that way.

Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 02:58 PM by bridgit
McCain is responding and that is shifting internals cause people are sheeple loving smack-downers (sometimes even here), but then our need for a very-rapid response team...sank like a stone, almost as though people aren't aware of how much work remains...I'd like it to start working out sooner than later but it'll work out :)

16. Obama needs to be *way* ahead to actually win.
Given the Bradley Effect and the Republicans Always Cheat Effect, O needs to be up by 10% or more to have a chance. If this were a proper campaign and the American public were less idiotic, he would be up 20+% right now. The fact that he is not is indeed somewhat worrisome.

20. No, Stump. You've already given up.
You are like everybody I've seen here on DU since the 2004 election. You're unable to summon up hope. And you're also unable to summon up ANGER.

You've been fed that crap from grade school on, haven't you? Anger is BAD. You should never fight for anything. You must be polite and charming and never get under the skin of anyone, not even the nice men who are stuffing you into a boxcar for a trip to Auschwitz.

It's YOU, and people like you, who are going to hand the election to McCain/Palin. Because you are too polite to ball your fists and scream into the faces of the Morans. You think the word "fucking" makes your post outrageous and daring? You know what word would make your post outrageous? "I punched a Palin supporter in her fat gut today." But you won't do that, will you?

Yes, I'm angry and bitter too, but not at Republicans; at the people who are letting this election slip through their well-manicured, non-dirty fingers.

24. Who's to say the OP isn't?
After the last two elections, why can't we be worried? It doesn't mean any of us are throwing in the towel. It just means we're honest-to-God petrified over a McCain-Palin White House and will fight that possibility to the bitter end.

I'm getting sick of the DU thought police telling perfectly legitimate posters to shut up and/or get out.

29. Wait till Monday, Sept. 15. A seminal day in U.S. history.
The pillars of the false Bush economy will collapse. The rich will cash out; the rest of us will have to rebuild our country. Unless Rove gets Palin elected. In which case, I hunker down.

32. As Deep Throat would advise, follow the money.
Obama has raised more money than any Democrat in history and a very considerable chunk of his record haul is from small donors.

The grassroots is activated in favor of his candidacy and generally against McCain's, and Obama's grassroots organization suggests a competent get-out-the-vote operation in more states than any Democrat in my lifetime. John Kennedy's advance team was mighty good; Obama's might be better.

We're way up in registration. Strong blue trend.

Polling suggests that McCain is having to invest cash into states which ordinarily are in-the-bag states for the red team. Virginia has gone traditionally Republican but Obama is c. tied there now with reason for further encouragement. Indiana is a steeper climb, but here, too, Obama is within striking distance of a win. Indiana is close and iffy but all other Great Lake States will go blue, IMO.

Obama/Biden will sweep New England and the mid-Atlantic states, including Pennsylvania. IMO we will also carry Colorado and New Mexico, and very possibly Nevada.

While Palin has lit a fire under some fundie nutbags, McCain has never been popular with them since his denouncement in year 2000 of Falwell and Robertson. They don't entirely trust him and he isn't "one of them." He will get a majority of the nutbag vote, certainly, but IMO in smallr percentages in key districts than he needs despite the choice of Palin.

Many Republicans did not even show up for their own convention. In private moments, any GOP strategist will tell you it has something to do with their belief that they will not prevail in November.

Wall Street is funneling money toward the Democrats. These people are often an ambitious and results-minded bunch and they serve as a portent to the election outcome. This is real money and it's being directed toward Obama-Biden and not McCain-Palin.

The talking heads are still frequently off-point but in surprising moments have taken strong hits on McCain. They don't seem to love him the way they used to. And they can't win on points against people like Rachel Maddow and Joe Biden. Just today, Claire McCaskill slapped Carly Fiorina senseless on national tv. More is at stake this time and they're applying the Bush-Cheney era response and finding it less effective than their corporate masters had hoped.

Iowa went to Bush in 2004. Obama leads there now in double figures.

While McCain is not Bush Obama has successfully branded him with the 'W' ranch label and McCain is more McSame than he is anything else. The economy is tanking and the Middle East is a charred ruins. McCain, who vehemently support Bush's failures, will lose a certain percentage of voters because of that, no matter what other distinctions are made.

Obama can inspire an audience, suggesting that he can also lift the nation. McCain can't.

That's a partial list of reasons to be encouraged. We got the bucks, the ground game, and we own the issues. Let's mount a full-court 50-state press on the old crank and his nasty veep nom and let's run up the score on Nov. 4, too.
