18. For what it's worth..

I just came back from a dem meeting in Missouri. We're a rural county that generally votes republican,but tonight we had the largest turn out that anyone there could remember. Every seat was full (in a room that seats maybe 300) and people were not only standing in the room itself, but had spilled into the halls. Normal attendance for a dem meeting in this area is 10-20 people, so this was huge. The most amazing thing was that there had been no special advertising or anything. Most of the people there had individually sought out their own information on how to become involved with the local dem organization, and the crowd was fired up and ready to work.

I have never seen anything like this in my life, and I do not accept that it's not a much better predictor of the outcome of this election than some possibly misleading poll questions.

I also heard at the dem meeting tonight that Kerry and Edwards had written Missouri off today as being 'unwinnable'. Don't write us off yet. I've talked to an awful lot of repubs who are planning on staying home, and an awful lot of dems who are willing to do whatever it takes to win.
