Joseph Goebbels and the republican party.
The republican party operates on Joseph Goebbels' theory of propaganda - tell a lie often enough and it will soon sound like the truth. They do not care that their ads are full of lies, they do not care that Paili's speeches are full of false accomplishments, they do not care that McCain looks right into the camera lens and denies he has ever flip-flopped on an issue. They care about winning the daily news cycle - period.

They will do anything and say anything to win.

5. The Republicans seem to have forgotten the moral of that story
Keep on lying and the entire world will ally against you
and rightfully bring you to the public square to hang by your ankles.

6. "Win at any cost"
That IS the moral of the republican story. They don't care about anything else. "Values" and "Honor" are simply talking points - they don't believe in any of this shit. If we think we can "shame" them into respectable behavior we are pissing up a rope.

9. I cannot agree with you more
The only thing that would teach them is a sound defeat... a Defeat of the likes to render them to; the letters or the editorial page.
as only a serious self evaluation could ever get through to them.

to compare the Rs to Nazis based on lying. We have a bit of history in our own party. We do not want to invite a comparison.
Lying has become a part of politics. Defensive lying. Embellishing to get the job.

Whether it is categorized as "lying" "omitting, embellishing, equivocating," or other nuanced wording will probably be determined by the level of support given to the person who tells the lie.

12. Machiavelli
Said the end justifies the means - Goebbels added his twist later described as the big lie - Lee Atwater perfected its use in the American political scene but at least he had the decency to beg for forgiveness on his deathbed - Karl Rove took Atwater's work and made it even meaner, even colder, even more devastating. The republicans don't give two shits if their ads are "fair" just so long as they contain the big lie - something simple enough for even the dumbest American to understand and then they repeat it over and over and over again until it sounds like the truth.

That's where these techniques come from - I'm sorry but as they say - "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
