Why it was a bad 3 days for the McCain campaign

  • McCain goes on "the View"....a show where it is almost impossible to look bad, because the women on that show usually serve up softball after softball... and his intent is to make inroads with white suburban women. It backfires badly, as Barbara Walters begins channelling Tim Russert, Joy Bayhar does her Walter Cronkite impression, Whoopie Goldberg becomes Edward R. Murrow, and Elizabeth Hasselbeck becomes Marcel Marceau.

  • Almost every major newspaper in the country ran front-page stories about McCain lack of "truthiness". New York Times, Washington Post, Bloomberg News, Boston Globe, MSNBC.com, Yahoo, you name it.

  • The first 5 minutes of Saturday Night Live will be played on the cable news networks a LOT on Sunday, and on Monday morning. SNL's audience for the season opener usually approaches 10 million. Within 3 days, 50 million will have seen Tina Fey's scathing performance of Sarah Palin. Don't underestimate the power of SNL to shape a narrative among the Low-Information Voters. Tina Fey did an impression of Sarah Palin doing an impression of Tina Fey. That might have been the best and toughest acting job anyone's ever pulled off.

  • The September 11th service forum was watched by more than 10 million people, and Obama came off looking MUCH better than McCain.

  • A new phrase entered the American lexicon... "In what respect, Charlie?". Google that exact wording in quotes. Nearly 15,000 hits.

  • Millions of Low-Information Voters now know the meaning of "the Bush Doctrine".... or were reminded that, for the first time in our history, it became official policy to attack a nation that hadn't attacked us.

The current poll numbers show LAST WEEK'S mood. Just wait until about Thursday to see what is going to happen to them now.

17. I took it more as a 'snap' movement "I know you di en just ask me that?"
She moved down to the side in her chair while looking at him in a way that said he had some nerve to ask her something she didn't know the answer to (0r wasn't on their pre-approved list). Cherlie needs to watch his back with that one. She might mistake him for a bear some day.

3. Joy Bayhar really got under Admiral Combover's dry, cracked skin.

He literally turned his back to her after she pursued him and basically said he was lying.

4. Yeah, it's a long wait between now and then...
But I look foreward to the Wednesday/Thursday numbers.

If they don't drop for McCain after this weeks crap-o-rama, I just won't know what to think any more.

5. And, let me be the kill joy ...
this is the FIRST time, the FIRST time, this whole campaign, that the media has even STARTED to call McCain on some of his shiite.

Coincidentally, BO had dropped below McCain in most polling for the first time.

SORRY, but McCain's national lead gave the media cover to actually do its job as the third estate - as soon as BO, god willing, pulls even/ahead, make no mistake, they WILL back off on McCain. Again, best case, they are trying to create a "horse race" in reality, doing their job of propping up the R.

11. Why? What personal satisfaction is involved in being the killjoy? And what GOOD does it do?
And don't give me all that 'I'm a realist' crap. WHY be negative?

8. Perfect except for your second point... He is AWASH in "truthiness".
He is, however, badly lacking in truth.

13. Loved Whoopi's comment when McShame wanted
an original interpretation of the founders version of the Constitution. I'd be a slave. McShame granted she had a point... A POINT African-Americans,
free and slave, were only counted as 3/5ths of a person. Since BHO is Aftrican-American what you think that means... or means for the rest of us...
Beside the fact that McShame doesn't think through his policies....

14. Add to that: the stories that keep breaking about Palin's lies, secrecy, involvement
in Troopergate; the protests against her in a state where she supposedly has an 80% approval rating. Let her continue to lie about the Bridge to Nowhere. I'm going to join Keith Olbermann: for each time she and/or McSame and/or a Repuke repeats the lie, I'm giving a donation to Obama and the DNC. (Guess I'll be one broke chick.)

Can't wait for Obama's fundraising numbers to be announced this week.

We rocked in VA this weekend. So many volunteers that the office ran out of canvassing packets!! ;)

18. FWIW, my bet is that things look even worse next Thursday.
It appears that the momentum is currently with the McCain campaign.

I don't think we're doomed, but I will be surprised if the situation improves much before the 26th and the 2nd.

Right now, I think that the person best placed to save the election is Joe Biden on the 2nd, and I think he'll have his work cut out for him. Obama will probably make mincemeat of McCain, but if people are voting for Palin then that won't make much difference.
