Some of you piss me off (part II,Field Office edition)
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 08:23 PM by Wolsh
Folks, field offices are not fortune 500 corporations. They are staffed, more often then not, by unpaid twenty somethings who have been moved to do something bigger then themselves in order to help fix this country. They are often asked to work absurd hours for, let me stress then again, ZERO dollars.

Furthermore, we are lucky this year to have so many offices open in so many states. Years past, if you were in the south, or a strong blue state there would be no field offices near you. I live in GA (for reasons beyond my control, man I miss the coast of VA) and I have THREE offices within a 15 mile radius of my house. Each of these offices are staffed by people who I owe complete and utter respect to, because, I'm not sure if I mentioned this, THEY WORK FOR NOTHING.

Stop your bullshit whining, stop thinking that your egos should be stroked by these volunteers, roll up your fucking sleeves and get to work.

12. Remember, the McCain campaign is offering prizes for trolling comments on Dem blogs...

And never underestimate the malicious intent of rabid PUMAs who are now plotting in their forums how to disrupt DU.
Betwwen the two groups of malcontents, you have BS artists who enjoy stirring up trouble.

20. Absolutely. I remember one who sounded like a child or mentally challenged
He/She would just not stop ragging on the campaign for being disorganized and not "helping".

I'm sure some of you remember.

I think "it" had a thousand posts ...

2. Amen Amen Amen

Yup... it's not about "how wonderful I am for showing up."

I'm in my 40's and have all kinds of valuable skills, but if the 23 year old office manager needs me to sit around and wait for a while until there are more phones or new lists, then that's what I do.

7. That is it in a nutshell.....too many want to recognition without doing the work
Unless you're sweating, and doing something below " you're pay grade", you're not doing enough.

3. Thank you.
I am one of those people working for nothing, but working for everything that I believe in.

Our office is an empty space with donated furniture and pretty much a dive. It is the most wonderful place I have been in years.

4. It probably is a little surprising for newbies to grassroots politics to see how it's done...
You're right, the thing to do is "roll up your fucking sleeves and get to work."

6. Our office in the Philly suburbs is FANTASTIC.
It's a corner office, with huge windows that are papered with Obama posters and signs. The location provides huge areas for lots of signs for both Obama and state candidates. It is always staffed by a very pleasant person at the front desk(so far, every time I've been there, a retirement-aged person), and there are always some volunteers there making phone calls, working on the computer, doing voter registration. And there are a lot of signs available, and bumper stickers, and buttons. And they are EAGER for any volunteers.
But, that's just one office....

10. Yes, our local field office coordinator is here in western PA from Boston.
Thanks for all of the work you are doing.

I'm very glad that we have so many offices this year. The ground game is so much better organized than it was for the Kerry campaign.

15. In Tarrant County we have THREE offices that are totally by Volunteers
These offices are NOT a part of the Obama National Campaign. The offices are donated by PEOPLE who care about our country. The people who staff these offices are volunteers. They don't get PAID any money. They are there seven days a week. They provide a valuable service to our community.

The main HQ's has been donated by a man who owns a lot of the property in the Stock Yards. It is in the same location as Billy Bob's Texas. He lets the Obama HQ's use a large room to hold meetings. He has also stated that he wants to hold a huge rally outside in the plaza.

It's kinda funny yet sad that he rented a store space to a racist. This renter immediately put up huge rebel flags on every wall. This was directly across the hall from our HQ's. He was never open when I went to meetings. But I did take some pics of his flag draped store. He is no longer there.

The other two offices I have not been to yet. They hold voter registration drives and offer support to Obama supporters.

Thank you Wolsh for reminding people that there are dictated people who are working very long and rewarding hours to help get Barack Obama elected President.:applause:

17. I went to the Obama HQ today and NO ONE offered me a latte!
No foot rub, no nothing! All they did was give me a yard sign and ask me if I'd be able to phone bank.

Those ungrateful bastards!
