Okay got someone who is leaning towards Obama until
Palin came into picture ugh

I'm writing to her now, I've wrote about what an honest campaign Obama is running compared to how disgusting McCain is running.

I told her Palin has lied alot, and is extremist in her religious views,

I'm adding a few credible sourced articles

If there was one or two things you could say to someone who said this to you "I was leaning towards Obama until Palin came along and I think she is cool" what would you say??

36. Palin: " NUCLEAR WAR WITH RUSSIA A GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Palin just suggested, that the US would go to war with Russia over Georgia or the Ukraine:
Palin advocated the accession of Georgia and Ukraine into NATO, meaning that if attacked again in the future, the United States would be bound to go to war.
"I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're
going to be expected to be called upon and help," she said.

http://firedoglake.com/2008/09/11/palin-nuclear-war-wit... /

In her interview today with ABC News’ Charles Gibson, Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin stated in no uncertain terms “we cannot repeat the Cold War”. However, in a follow-up question about a possible hot war with Russia, the Alaska Governor’s answer was an unsettlingly non-committal “perhaps”.

47. Something that has worked for me
This is something I've been using with some of my non-political women friends at work. I talked about this before at DU and it was kinda "poo-poo-ed", but I've been using it successfully:

I explain to them why I think she's a horrible mother.

I tell them that she not only hid her pregnancy from the public, but from her own family, till she was seven months pregnant. I ask them if they can imagine springing a new baby - especially a special needs baby on their children without preparing them beforehand. Her little girl Piper, who is cute a button is only six years old - and she was excluded from this major event.

I tell them about Sarah Palin's story about leaking amniotic fluid, but staying in Texas to finish her speech - then flying (flying!) back to Alaska! At 44, carrying a special needs fetus! EVERY woman recognizes how crazy and irresponsible this is. Then I say that's why there were rumors that it wasn't really her baby. That people gave her too much credit - couldn't believe ANYONE would do anything so stupid - so it must have been a lie.

Then, when they're really hating on her and comparing their own experiences and concerns during their own pregancies and deliveries I cap it off with how she threw her pregnant 17 year old daughter into the international spotlight in an effort to squash a rumor about herself. And that her kids had NO warning beforehand that they were going to be joining a national campaign with their mom for the VP slot. That she flew them from Alaska to Ohio under the pretense of celebrating and anniversary.

The women at work who I know and like, because they're generally good people with a variety of conservative and liberal views - kinda "cafeteria style" on the issues and are bored with politics and don't understand policy "get this". It's gossip - it's juicy gossip - they can relate their own experiences to it and they TOTALLY reject Palin afterwards. Find her appalling.

After that it's easy to get them to join in later on things like mocking her for thinking "seeing Russia from an island in Alaska" qualifies her as an expert on Russia. They understand, very simply, that she's not a good person and if she keeps secrets from her family and treats them so cavalierly that she's not going to give a flying fig about them or their families.

If you can do this with humor - a whole lot of "Can you imagine!?!?" rather than a lecture it really helps it along and everyone gets in on the act. Trust me - once they understand this facet of Sarah Palin and decide they don't like her - every other dumb ass thing she says and does gets examined much more closely than when it was a boring "he said/she said" campaign.

70. Thanks!
It's been really interesting, and a lot of fun too. It seems that once you crack through the "it's all so abstract" and they start "hating on her" for one reason (that they'd never behave that way with their children)they actually start to pay attention to some of the heinous things she's done or supports.

I mean really - who wants to feel left out of a good "pile on"? LOL

I've registered four new voters at work and another changed her party affiliation. Change you can believe in, baby! :bounce:

Does she want someone negotiating with Iran or Russia or Pakistan who thinks she has foreign policy expertise just because Alaska is next o Russia?

Actually, my niece also refuses to vote for Obama, but in her case it's not racism, it's just that she's gullible and very influenced by the Republican fear tactics. But I'm not on speaking terms with her, so I keep sending information to my Obama-supporting sister, which she passes on to her daughter. It really is scary that anyone can think that being a working mom and an independent woman somehow qualifies anyone to be President, especially in today's world and after the last 8 years.

point out how Palin is against that interest. Point out how much better they will do under the economy, regarding Obama's Healthplans, how much better Obama /Biden are on women's issues, and point out Palins lies and her cruelty towards animals. If none of these arguments get to this person there is no hope for them.

16. If you know if she is an animal lover you could tell her about the aerial hunting, maybe
show her the video.

- The interview with Charlie Gibson where Palin answers, "In what respect, Charlie?" to his question about the Bush doctrine is particularly damning.

- It is not "cool" to not teach your children about sex education.

- She lied about the "Bridge to Nowhere."

- etc.

There are so many points you can use. If you know a little bit about the person you could tailor your response to what you know will make her think twice about Palin.

they were Hillary people. One of them even went to see Bill Clinton when he came here to our little town. All they could say was what a good looking family she had, they love her hair, and they want a woman.

I came home in disgust last night.

However, I think I've persuaded a born-again Christian/animal rights person NOT to vote period because she didn't know about Palin and the wolves and the polar bear/climate change issues. I sent her the video of the aerial killing Palin approves of and I think it totally turned her off of the McCain/Palin ticket!!!

One of the Hillary people who want to vote because of Palin said they didn't like that "Obama said Palin was a pig". I told her the truth but she didn't believe me....that it was MCain's quote and also that Obama was talking about Republicans and McCain in general not Palin. She didn't act like she believed me. St Petersberg Times editorial

In print: Sunday, September 14, 2008

This nation is facing real challenges on the economy, health care, jobs and the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are significant differences between how Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain would address them. But McCain's recent campaign ads suggest the most vital issues are whether Obama wanted to teach sex education to kindergarten children and whether he derided the Republican's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, by talking about lipstick on a pig.

McCain's straight talk has become a toxic mix of lies and double-speak. It is leaving a permanent stain on his reputation for integrity, and it is a short-term strategy that eventually will backfire with the very types of independent-thinking voters that were so attracted to him.

The sex education ad says that Obama supported "comprehensive sex education" for kindergarten children. Graphics then appear with a voice-over saying: "Learning about sex before learning to read?"

The facts: Obama, while a state lawmaker in Illinois, supported a measure to provide older students with age and developmentally appropriate sex education. Younger children, such as those kindergarten-age, would be taught "age-appropriate" things such as how to protect themselves from sexual predators. The legislation was widely backed by the state PTA and the Illinois Public Health Association. Parents could choose to opt out of any instruction for their children.

But in McCain's campaign playbook, this responsible legislation becomes fodder for a grotesque distortion as a way to instill fear in voters.

As to the lipstick-on-a-pig controversy, McCain's campaign has purposely twisted the way Obama used that expression in a recent speech in Virginia. A McCain campaign ad claims that Obama was directing an insult to Palin who, during the Republican National Convention, characterized hockey moms like herself as pit bulls with lipstick.

The truth: Obama used the phrase, which he had used before, to attack McCain's claim that he'll reform Washington while retaining the policies of President Bush. After using the lipstick-on-a-pig phrase, Obama said, "You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."

McCain's faux chivalrous outrage over Obama's purported insult is beneath him. He has been a serious public servant willing to say unpopular truths when he thought it best for the country, but he's more than willing in this election to put his name on campaign lies. The leader who says he would rather lose an election than lose a war now risks losing his reputation in an attempt to win the White House.

She wants to ban all abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.

She is a fundamentalist Christian who has said she believes the Iraq war is a mission from God.

She is currently under investigation for harassing a state employee and illegal termination.

She lies as often as McSame does. She did not sell the plane on eBay and she did not fire the chef. The plane sold privately, at a loss, after posting it on eBay as was the custom even before Sarah was Governor. The chef still cooked for the kids but the Governor changed her title and added on some other duties, so it could look like a noble gesture of eliminating the position, even though her kids would not like it.

As Mayor, she asked the librarian THREE TIMES, whether books could be banned from the library. Just an inquiry, she says. But it was made Three Times.

Ask her what she thinks of McPalin's stated intent to max out Green Cards/H1 Visas for the best jobs in this country.

Ask her if she is aware that Drill Here, Drill Now will only pump more oil into INTERNATIONAL markets, because the oil companies are TRANS NATIONAL CORPORATIONS, and where we will have to bid for it against nations who can afford MUCH higher bids than we can, because we are broke.

Ask her what she thinks about putting the seal of the POTUS on religious cronyism of the sort that Palin practiced as governor of Alaska, that makes most if not all of the best jobs the PRIVATE BUSINESS of certain churches.

Ask her how she feels about the foreign policy of the U.S. being defined by the exclusive goal of establishing U.S. Dominion over all of Earth in the name of Jesus.

35. Focus on her record
Both as mayor and governor:

1. Firing competent people and replacing them with political yes men

2. Ignoring needed infrastructure (sewage treatment plant) for something not needed built on contested ground (sports complex that is costing more because of continued litigation)

3. Taking state money for staying at home

4. Trying to take down her ex-brother in law and using her official position to do it.

Since your friend is a woman, you might wish to tell her that while Palin was mayor, rape victims had to pay for rape kits (cost: $300-$1200), the only town in AK where this was done. And Palin has said that rape victims should be forced to carry rapist's babies to term.

Surely one of these points would get her. The last, unnumbered one is what gets me.

38. She pays attention to her state scientists when it come to Earmarks and ignores them when it comes
to using state tax dollars as bounty to rich hunters who run Wolves down in airplanes, until they are exhausted, and then they land and cut off their left front leg to turn them into a state program that pays them $150.00 per for them.

40. Start by agreeing
"Yes she is cool . . . but are you aware that she . . .

1) Opposes choice even in cases of incest, rape or both;
2) Is quick on the trigger to hire her friends and fire her enemies in public positions;
3) Has virtually no experience with or understanding of foreign affairs;
4) Has a history of mixing her religious views with her public duties;
etc.

42. Ask her if she wants a cool vice president
or one who is qualified.

It's an election, not a popularity contest.

We're interviewing people for a job, not sucking beers back with them.

It's a voting booth, not a clown car.

You're an idiot.

She's about as cool as the barrel of a shotgun pointing at the head of an Alaskan wolf.

Barack Obama = A Bridge to the Future

52. All the stuff about her character and her corruption that's been said, plus
"Palin is NOT going to be the President."

I think these people think they're going to see and hear HER all the time. The campaign is the most they're going to see.

How often did we see Al Gore when Clinton was Pres?

HOPEFULLY, the novelty will wear off.

Oh, and about her proven lack of knowledge of foreign policy: Ask your friend how they would choose a contractor to remodel their kitchen or bathroom. Would they pick a cute newbie who has mixed reviews on work quality, or a homely pro with great refs? Ask them to think on that.

53. She is not prepared to be President!
She's lived a sheltered existence in Alaska where the State gets much money than it collects in taxes. She's never had to make tough economic decisions as a result. She's running on earmarks, but earmarks are only a very tiny part of our budget. Even Greenspan, a Republican thinks McCain's tax policy will make our economy worse (you can find this article on the Greatest page).

McCain spent months demanding that Obama travel back to Iraq. McCain said that this was essential to Obama's understanding of the war if he wanted to be President. Now we find our that Palin has never even been to Iraq. By McCain's own standards, she's unqualified.

And, would force your daughter (niece, sister) to bear the child of a rapist or someone whom molested her?

Really?

Seriously?

You're kidding, right?

You had me going there for a minute.

63. Remember 8 years ago when we elected someone on personality rather than policy?
Yeah, that worked out great. What these people actually believe matters. Palin is a down-the-line, arch-conservative in the Bushian mold. She supports his economic agenda. She supports his foreign policy. She supports his social agenda. She would make the same appointments as Bush. Where is the reform? Her "reforms" are nothing but lies. End of story.

There are fundamental differences between the two that should speak to a person's core values in either direction. We aren't voting for class president. What the hell did she like about Obama? His awesome shades?

Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 09:25 PM by anonymous171
Her only strength is that she seems in-touch with the common American and looks like a moderate. But the facts paint a different picture. Don't bother with the lying thing. Just paint Palin as a super-extremist who's worse than Bush.
