A quick sanity break from Sarah Palin threads.
There are a few cheap (.99) goodies in the iTunes App store for iPhone and iPod Touch users. I just loaded a couple of them up in my Touch, which is now officially my OPod.
The first is Election 08. It updates via your WiFi on the Touch when you open it. It gives the most recent polling available by state and an estimate of the Electoral College - which, I'll add, is driving the few Republicans who have installed it insane because they don't understand the difference between the national polling numbers and the EC estimates. Fun reading in the comments :)
The app isn't perfect by any means, although the author claims he's working on an update. He doesn't source the updates - a serious flaw - but the numbers pretty well correspond to what I've seen elsewhere.
The opening screen gives you an overview with the latest results:
If you want to drill down a bit, touch the state and give it a flick. You'll get 1992-2004 results on this screen.
Like I said, it isn't perfect but if you're away from your computer a lot it might come in handy to get the latest updates.
Another fun one is the Obama Inauguration Countdown Calendar - the photos and quotes rotate and there are quite a few so you often get a completely new screen when you're checking to see how much longer we'll have to tolerate the GOP madness.
And finally, the DNC has made available video of every major speech given at the 2008 Convention, available for download free of charge at iTunes. I have Obama's convention speech on my Touch:
I haven't seen any Sarah Palin apps yet, but I'm sure one will pop up between now and November...the rethugs over there are feeling left out.
