*****FIGHTING TO WIPE THE LIPSTICK OFF THE PIG '08****
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 02:00 PM by FrenchieCat
Looking at the lay of the land as it pertains this election, the media basically decides each and everyday what the "meme" is going to be for that day. Our candidates talk issues on the stump each and everyday, but the media considers that boring, and instead, they wait for something unusual to happen, a gaffe or something; that is what they report on. In otherwords, the media really is responsible for inflencing public opinion and to that end our Elections, and most of it is based on what doesn't truly count.

The media is the one pushing Sarah Palin hard as a "Celebrity". They are the ones that decided that "Lipstick on the Pig" was a "story". They decide what polls to highlight, and what polls to ignore. They are the ones deciding how to frame issues, and they believe that they are the ones in control of this election. And to a point, they are correct.

I am sure that it hasn't escaped most of us that our guys are running against McCain/Palin, the White House, and the RW corporate media....and that the Democratic candidates have to be three times as good, and get only 1/2 of the credit for it.

Why is the Media siding with the Republicans, even when the Republicans screw them in their asses just about every day?

Some say it is for ratings and advertising revenues.
Some say it is because the owners of media favor deregulation and lower corporate taxes
and yet others don't see a bias. :wtf:

So the question becomes, is there something that we can do about this? It is pretty hard to win an election, even if we clearly have the better candidates in everyway, if the media flexes its muscles at just the right time to influence voters.

So, this is what I have decided could make a small difference, based on the fact that we are limited in our own power, and in fact, at times I believe that we are often used by the media to assist them. They oftentimes quote tidbits such as...."the Democrats are getting nervous...", "The Democrats don't think that Obama is fighting back hard enough....", "the Internet is going wild about this or that....", "The Internet is pushing a false story", etc....

In otherwords, the media uses us when they see fit, and ignore us when they choose to.

This morning, I called MSNBC at (212)664-4444, and I basically told them what I am writing here.

From today forward, I plan on calling MSNBC every single day. I realize that my one little message may not be heard by anyone, but what if hundreds of us called everyday?....and left detailed messages giving our opinion of what we are seeing, i.e., we become pundits on the topic of the media, as individuals. I know, I know...they probably will ignore all of us, but the bottomline is that someone will be "hearing" those messages, and in my mind, just like calling prospective voters is useful, so is calling the media. Perhaps, they will get the message that not only do we see what they do, but we are willing to take a couple of minutes out of our busy day to tell them what we think.

Calling CNN is what I will do after this. Their number is (404)827-0234.

I also will be writing every day. This morning, my daughter and I each wrote a letter to Morning Joe. I called them Gossipmongers in a polite way, and my daughter rebuked them for reading a Karl Rove Editorial on the air, and reminded them that Rove also predicted that Obama would not be the nominee.

I hope some of you will join us in communicating to the Media, writing LLTs to newspapers, etc...

I fear that if we don't do this, it won't get done. I understand that registering Voters, canvassing, calling voters, donating to Obama, Move-On, the DNC, and congressional candidates is par for the course, but I think going this extra step cannot hurt in the least. At some point, the media might just listen to the calls at critical moments, just to get a better insight on where viewers stand and what they are saying about what they see.

6. Do we have the numbers for the Big 3 network news organizations? I was
talking to my mom yesterday, who is an Obama supporter, but not politically active. She watches the local news and ABC Evening News and only reads her local paper in the Northern Virginia area. She said that she had not heard about how the Bridge to Nowhere claim by Palin was a lie. She did say that maybe she had nodded off when they reported on it (that Charlie Gibson is so riveting). She had seen Palin, over and over, talking about canceling the Bridge, but never any rebuttal.

We need to be contacting the Big 3 Networks and monitoring them as well. They get quite a few more viewers than the cable news, and also need to be held accountable. Maybe even more so.

8. The best thing to do, because I believe what you are looking for,
I have posted....is to copy and paste the contact information in these posts to a word document.

As one writes to the media, one should make and address book under the header "media"....in order to be able to find a number and/or contact email quickly....by making the last name the media org's acronym, and the first name, the actual reporter or specific division.

The information that I have listed is not "spanking" new.....so that is the drawback. I have had the time and determination to updated, although it should be.

When writing to a news source, I suggest that copies one of the watchdog organization.....

I have a list of Watchdogs orgs, just have to locate them.

It is unbelievable how biased it is..You are right on the mark with this one .
I am in. Many of us have to do this for this to have an impact-I for one am in Frenchiecat.
Many people see nothing but the garbage on tv and it is scary how biased it is.

15. Yes they are biased, and transparently so to anyone paying attention....
The problem is I don't think they understand how many viewers actually see through their bullshit. They can only guess, and I believe that we should confirm their "suspicions".

who didn't bother to even kick this damn thread.

I know I'm boring, but this is ridiculous!

BTW, I just called CNN and told them that I was bored with their coverage of Biden's quote on Hillary, since they weren't showing context, nor had they sufficiently covered all of the lies the GOP have told the American people during the convention.
