Rachel Maddow pressed Pat for what Conservatives care about in this election if the stuff that's coming out about Palin (raising taxes, trooper gate, book banning etc.) suddenly doesn't matter. One of the issues he said would turn off conservatives was a "soft stance on immigration." Well, I googled and found some info on a few, shall we say, xenophobic blogs.

I personally find the following groups abhorrent, but what they have to say may resonate with the xenophobes voting for McCain/Palin?

Some of what is asserted BY BLOCS4BORDERS/FREEDOMFOLKS is as follows:

http://freedomfolks.com/blog/?p=3904

1. Alaska is considered a "sanctuary state" for illegal immigrants.

2. Alaska's first Mexican Consulate is scheduled to open in the near future.

3. Alaska is only one of 11 states to issue Drivers Licenses to illegal immigrants.

4. Something about a MS-13 gangs flourishing in Alaska ??

5. Alaska tax payers spent 27 Million educating illegal immigrants.

I know Obama wants a clean campaign, and I know that anti-immigrant BS does not appeal to "us" but if "Conservatives" are jazzed about Palin and they may be less so if they knew some of what is noted above should they not be, ohhhh, I dunno, informed? A Conservative 527 group supporting Barr or Paul might wish to take this on? *ehem*

Anyone have any connections to Lou Dobbs? ;)

3. Oh WE shouldn't talk about it.
Not at all, but Lou Dobbs can be informed and so can Ron Paul and ....

I would never want to touch this as a Party. But I wouldn't cry if someone did.

8. Nobody cares about illegal immigrants in Alaska
They PAY people to move there. It's a non-issue.

Attacking McCain on the issue, OTOH, is veeeeeeeery dangerous. Obama is doing it to win Hispanics, especially in New Mexico, but it definitely isn't a winning issue for the rest of the country. Fortunately, McCain's record on immigration is too mixed for him to use it against us.

9. I don't think the Obama campaign should make it an issue.
It's a matter for Conservatives to flesh out IMHO.

17. point is, Big money Repubs love the free movement of labor and capital
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 10:47 PM by davepc
but the unwashed xenophobic masses of repubs hate brown people migrating to the USA.

as a protectionist labor supporter, i think its better of the American worker if the flow of cheap labor was reduced and restricted...because keeping the price of labor higher is good for the wage earner...but its an wedge issue that can be used to split the republicans.

18. She's totally not worth the trouble
It's a remarkably short sighted idea. McChameleon will either turn into a Missing in Action version of Lou Dobbs or Maverick around and use it to peel the Hispanic vote.

20. I disagree. She's "envigorated" the base. I'd like to see them deflated
a bit. However NOT by the Obama camp. I would not want them anywhere near this issue.
