Hillary Defends Obama on Lipstick Comment.

by TomP, Wed Sep 10, 2008 at 06:29:29 PM EST

I think folks here will like this story, since many Clinton supporters were at MyDD during the primaries and so many of them have become strong supporters of Barack Obama now:

At a Capitol Hill news conference today, Hillary Clinton defended Obama's "lipstick on a pig" comment, accusing McCain of using the controversy to distract from substantive issues in the campaign.

"Barack has made this clear," she said responding to a question about the lipstick remark, which Republicans have condemned as a "disgraceful" and "sexist" attack on Palin. "It was no way meant as an affront."

During the press conference, which addressed equal pay for women, Clinton added that "Republicans need to lift up the dialogue" and blamed McCain's campaign for trying to "divert attention away from challenges facing Americans."

I'm not the one who initiated any dialogue with you. You did with me. Both last night and tonight, replete with bizarre, confused hostility because I tossed out some ideas about things Joe Biden should say re: Palin, things that I still think he should say. It's almost as if you're seeking people out to insult them.

I think she's doing a good thing.

you can attack me for saying so, but isn't that counterproductive to your goal of having people appreciate her more? If everyone time someone DOES appreciate her, you dredge up past acrimony, what are you really trying to accomplish?

33. Everytime?
Really? She's barely on my radar screen, other than I admired her convention speech and her living up to her word, as many of us expected she would. I didn't even support her for Veep. But recently there have been a rash of the usual suspects posting their divisive garbage. If you think she's doing a good thing, then more power to you, the remark wasn't meant for you.

I don't care if "people appreciate her more." Not my job nor my concern. SOme of you seem a little whacked about the subject.

wait to rub in everybody's faces how we picked the wrong candidate and how he should have picked Hillary.

It's like waiting for Christmas. They want their present now. So every poll is like shaking the box hoping to figure out what's in there.

63. I've not been a Hillary supporter & was really PO'd at her during the primary. But come on....
she did a good thing. Her answer was matter of fact, professional, dignified, supportive, and was the type of answer that contrasted with Sarah-Get-Your-Guns-Palin. A REAL woman politician and leader vs. a novice smartass.

A stronger answer would've seemed too combative. Don't want to get down in the mud and waller WITH the pigs, you know.

46. "The One" responds: Let it go, big boy.
I had to step away to refocus what I wanted to say to you. I realized I am pissed off, but it's not at you or other former Clinton supporters that haven't quite let it go. Hey, I feel your pain. I was gently spanked by DU and voluntarily took some time off to refocus.

There is so much shit flying, so much emotion erupting over finally realizing this is it. This is our shot at the White House and a filibuster-proof Senate. That's all I care about. I mean that and a half.

I have had a remarkable journey here at DU from Clinton Sycophant to Clinton Hater (those titles assigned to me). Here's where I really stand. I will speak the truth about them without fear and I won't be shamed for it. I am most often met with an onslaught of trashing the source, calling me a hater, and, well, pretty much everything including the kitchen sink, everything except the meat of the matter. The point. I don't like that. I am entitled to like or dislike whatever I want. That's not a crime. And I'm entitled to post where I'm coming from within DU guidelines without being slammed for it.

I am completely immersed in this election. Barack and Joe are our hope for change. After these long-ass eight years, that is what matters. It's the only thing that matters.

Peace. Please.

36. Obama took the comment out of context?
The way I remember it, I was watching tv when the comment was made and the people that said it was racist was the news media. I never heard Obama say anything about it personally.

And like others are saying. If you want people to forget what went on in the primary, then I would advise you to drop it. If you want to keep trying to bad mouth Barack for your own purposes, then you can just keep on keeping on and see what happens.
