PROPOSAL: Limiting Palin stories to One thread PER DAY & calling it the DU Daily Palin Thread
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 05:23 PM by FrenchieCat
Cause I think we are approaching this whole Palin thing wrong. We are doing exactly what the GOP wants us to do, and doing what the Corporate Media is paid to do; distracting ourselves from what this election is really supposed to be about.

I know that I have been saying for the last two weeks, and was advised to keep it to myself, but I'm saying it again.

I believe that we need to stay away from the personal all together, and we need to not focus on every little item that comes up. We should catalogue it in a Daily Palin Thread, but I don't think that just about every thread on this forum should be about her...and unfortunately, most of the are.

So can we just have a DU Daily Palin thread?...because when the media and the Freepers comes to DU to see what is going on with us (and yes, DU is one of the forum that the media checks with), I personally don't like what they are seeing.

So, about it? This woman doesn't deserve the attention that we are giving her, and it is very discouraging to come to this forum and see Palin's name everywhere. It isn't helping Obama, and it certainly isn't helping our cause.

1. best idea I've seen is a separate forum, as during the primaries
that said, Palin is now the defacto candidate

not much said about McCain, who's hiding behind her skirts:

3. We used to have a Dailey Obama news thread here,
and considering that Palin is NOT our candidate, I think that would serve as well....cause then, we don't need admin involved.

18. Well, that's the point of talking about her.
Talk about her until her until she gets totally played out and her "appeal" starts to fade. The alternative is what? Letting her hide away until the election so that the only impression the public has of her is that she gave "an impressive speech" at the convention?

29. Ah, this is not the TV.
Talk about her until she gets totally played out = people get bored of visitng DU. You seem to think swing voters are avidly following our discussions here. They aren't, and would roll their eyes at your assumption that the public cares what we discuss on DU.

6. totally agree
If we didn't obsess over it, she would fade away. The more we harp and harp, the more her status is elevated. We need to focus this race on Obama versus McCain.

13. We don't want her to fade away.
If she fades away while the perception is still "she's a regular mom who gave a great speech at the convention and is a reformer" then we lose. We need to keep her in the spotlight and bring attention to who she really is. After all, she is the head of the ticket.

that we are obsessed with her.

Right now, I can't use the ignore button or the hide a thread button.

14. Hell yeah we're obsessed with her!
She's scary! She's insane, dangerous and totally unqualified for the job. And since she's essentially the head of the ticket now and McCain could very well end up with serious health problems, she would potentially have a lot of power as VP.

8. Disagree. We need to tear apart her lies. And McCain's lies
Like it or not, she's half of the Republican ticket - and that's what we're fighting.

11. Palin Argument
The arguments here are essentially the same ones that are going on in the rest of the world (DU is not unique in this) - she's novel and she's unknown, and frankly she's more interesting (and scandalous) than McCain. The important point to consider is that she's also both tainted and shallow - tainted in that her only real "fame" comes from those very scandals, and after a while they will get talked out, and shallow in that there's not a lot left when you take away the taint. She'll be a ten day wonder, but already people are getting tired of her.

One other note - the media is trapped between a rock and a hard place right now ... they're corporate handlers have told them who to push, but frankly, they're credibility keeps getting hit every time McCain and Palin get trapped in yet another outrageous whopper. This doesn't mean that they're all going to miraculously embrace Obama, but it does mean that they're going to be much less enthusiastic about being such obvious shills.

12. Respectfully disagree.
This woman, if McCain won, would be VERY close to running our country. SHE has become a *big* reason that we can't let John McCain win.

15. Yep. And the more we focus on her, the more it just emasculates McCain,
and brings focus to the fact that she totally overshadows him and is now essentially the head of the ticket.

16. I and others have been unmercifully attacked for suggesting this
SO many people seem utterly determined to do the Republicans work for them here.

My solution?

Hide Thread.

If enough people did this, only the trolls would respond to those threads that are a distraction and not doing us any good at all.

20. I guess I don't understand what you want to talk about.
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 08:26 PM by ContinentalOp
We all basically agree on the issues. We've talked endlessly about Obama and Biden. McCain is totally a known quantity (and an utter joke at this point). She is the newest thing to talk about and the realities of who she is need to be brought to light.

The republicans most certainly do not want us talking about Palin as much as we are. She was supposed to fade into the background after her "great speech." She really can't handle any scrutiny and we can't help them along by allowing her to hide away until the election.

What do you want to hear? "Obama spoke to a large crowd today in Main St. USA, after which he smiled and shook people's hands"? What's the big issue that should be lighting up GDP?

I choose not to give her that power.

Posts that offer new and substantiated information that can hurt her are promoted by me, but that's no more than 5% of the P* posts.

It's not bad at all. After hiding 35 threads the first day, it's now only about 10 a day in GDP & maybe another 5-10 in GD.

Every day that Palin dominates discussion is a day that the GOP own the agenda.

we want to beat mccain. If, on the other hand, we want to let rove lead us around by a ring in our nose, we should keep our attention on the twit from Alaska. That way we don't really do anything to help Obama win.

Seriously. Good idea. At least start a palin discussion forum where all the gullible DU'ers could go, sort of a Jerry Springer for the new progressives.

On GDP and GD we could discuss things like -- oh, maybe the war, health care, the economy. Not as exciting or visceral as the diet and reproductive habits of a nobody from Alaska, but some of us are funny that way.

36. I think it's dumb to focus on Palin so much
but I think people should just post whatever they want. If you want to, ignore the Palin posts, which is something I've been trying to do lately. Limiting what people should post seems silly. Reply to the posts you think are important/interesting and ignore post you think are pointless/uninteresting. Keep the freedom to voice your opinion, even if some feel the post is pointless and distracting from other issues.
