CBS Forces Youtube to Yank McCain's Lipstick Web Ad!
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 03:11 PM by kpete
McCain ‘Lipstick’ ad pulled from YouTube due to possible copyright violation.»

Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) new web ad entitled “Lipstick” was pulled from YouTube earlier today due to a “copyright claim by CBS Interactive Inc.” The ad used a photo and a video clip of CBS News anchor Katie Couric. Attempting to view the ad on YouTube produces the following message:

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by CBS Interactive Inc.

Ben Smith says

YouTube has removed a webad that casts Sarah Palin as the victim of sexism on the request of CBS, whose anchor Katie Couric was featured in the ad.

“One of the great lessons of that campaign is the continued and accepted role of sexism in American life," Couric is quoted in the ad.

In the original clip, she was talking about Hillary Clinton; the ad applies her words to Sarah Palin.

2. Makes me wonder if they got the rights to even use that clip of Couric.
And really, should they be allowed to use a clip of Couric? It makes it seem like CBS and Couric both endorse the ad.
