Is something wrong with Sarah Palin's head?

everytime I see her on tv she has this thing sticking out of the back of her head.

Sometimes she wears her hair down, but she does this huge > shaped thing in the back of her hair.
Other times she wears a hat size bun in the same spot.

Is this the latest fashion, or is she trying to hide something?
What is in there?

I'm asking this as a middle aged woman, and I've never seen anything like that before.
Then again, I have never been one to follow fashion trends, so maybe she is stylish.

Whatever it is, I can't stop staring at her hair.

And don't call me sexist. I have the same problem whenever Senator Dorgan is on as well.
Or Carl Levin. But then again, they don't have huge bumps in the back of their heads.
