It's only my theory, but I recall a month or so ago when Obama was kicking ass in the polls. The newsies stressed that it was such only when all eligible voters were polled.
When the polling was narrowed down to only "likely voters", the race would be much closer, even tied. "Likely voters" does not include the 18 to 25 age group because they are known historically for finding something else to do on election day.
Since that revelation back in June-July, the polls have narrowed considerably, with reports that young people are even less likely to show up than originally thought.
Now I don't know for sure that the polls purposely dis include the youth vote, but I know the media loves a close race because it equates to higher ratings.
In NASCAR races, when the leader gets too far ahead, they "find oil or debris on the track", to bring out the yellow flag to bunch them back up, because the average fan will change the channel to a football game.
