Sex Sex Sex
how did it become a dirty word? And why shouldn't children learn about their own bodies. It helps to prevent teenage pregnancies when the kids know how babies are made. As proven in the last 8 years abstinence doesn't work.

Mankind reproduces through sex. Nothing to ashamed of.

Just the two cents of an European woman (me).

1. Exactly. Religion is replete with sexual references.
People would not exist without sex. Sex creates life. :dem:

7. I thought we live in the 21st century
some people seem to take us back into the middle age when religion reigned the whole live of people.

2. Thye should indeed be learning but not at the kindergarten level
In my experience as a retired teacher, about 3rd grade is early enough. Prior to that, it should be the parents responsibility.

8. But still to these days
not all parents teach their children. It is dirty, remember? Kids lean most about sexuality through friends anyway. But I would like to see sexuality classes in school. Gender seperated.

3. sex sex sex is fine. age approrpiate would be a wonderful concept too.
there is a middle road. not that what obama endorsed had anything to do with teaching sex sex sex to kindergarteners, we understand, right.

6. Of course not
Obama doesn't endorses sex in Kindergarten. But that is what the McCain campaign tries to spin it to. And we know what happened in the last years when suddenly kids weren't allowed to hug anymore because it might be sexual :eyes:

5. this is why
My Dad is a Freewill Baptist Evangelical Preacher, straight out of the Appalachian Mountains of SW VA. I am the only daughter and have 3 brothers. My Dad, was SOOOO strict on me, him being a preacher and all. I suppose that's because he was really afraid that I would get pregnant and embarrass him I suppose. Getting pregnant, back then especially, was a REALLY bad thing (It still is with these people).

Anyway, my point is, when you have these evangelicals being so strict on the kids, not teaching any sex education, only that getting "that way" (a SW VA term for pregnancy before wedlock, to this day), only makes a child rebel. I know I did. I wasn't allowed to watch TV (it was bad, and we didn't even know the word cable back then), couldn't go to the movies because of the "sin", couldn't got to high-school football games because you might run off and commit some kind of "sin", you name it, it was all "sin". So, as I said, I rebelled. I would sneak out my window at night, just so I could go out and do something with friends, I would drink just out of curiosity I suppose. I wanted to have fun, go and do things other kids were doing, so, I found a way to go about doing that. Being a evangelical preachers kid was not fun, was very stressful, and all I wanted was to turn 18 so I could get the heck out of the house and not have anyone control me. That's what it all was, CONTROL.

So, maybe, just maybe, if the Palin kids have been out partying and getting "that way", maybe it has something to do with their religion? Most kids from back then that I went to church with were just as wild as I was.

9. Wow, thanks for telling us your story
Not sure what I can say to that. Fundamental religion (no matter which religion) is just bad.

10. Lost more stories here
about these people. Another quick story is my memory of being forced to go to church, every Wed evening, Sat night, Sunday morning (started at 9 AM and usually didn't end until 1:00 pm) and then back again at 6pm on Sunday night!! All we heard about was the "rapture", and God coming back to take his own home, while the rest would be sent to Hell and burn in fire and brimstone forever. That was a very scary thing, especially if you were a kid. And, to add to that, people would hold "meetins" at there homes. I remember one time, we were all at a "meetin" at my aunt's house in VA, and my uncle (who was gay, but no one knew that at the time), was sitting on the couch (he wasn't "saved") (he liked his moonshine), and there was a little dog under the couch. The little dog bit my uncle's ankle, my uncle jumped up and screamed. The house exploded with "praise the Lord", "the Brother's got the Spirit" and things like that. My uncle said "Spirit hell, that damn dog just bit my ankle". That was funny. I'll never forget that!!

The people in the churches would "shout" and "testify" and "pray" in the "Spirit" all at the same time!! That was kind of scary also. I remember thinking, I'm so glad my Mom's not in the spirit (she hardly ever got in "the Spirit"). Anyway, I suppose back then I did accept that none of this was really strange, I grew up in the Church. It was just scary, and extremely strict, especially if you were a girl.
