16. I actually experienced one of these services

I went to one of these services with a friend after both of us were talked into going by an office mate who seemed like a normal person. We sat in the back seats of the church, not taking part in what was going on. About half way through the chaos of half the congregation going up to the front of the church, some of them crawling along on their knees, hands up in the air and eyes shut, yelling and screaming, a few of them rolling on the floor (I'm not sure if these were what we called "Holy Rollers" or not) anyway, after the chaos was well started, we slowly eased ourselves out in the aisle and crept outside of the building. What a relief to get outside and I never wanted to experience that again.The last part of this video brought it all back -- in spades.

I suppose I can see the downside that some assert - folks will hear CNN debunking the 'satan lizard' thing as a smear or rumor and extrapolate out to all negatives against Palin are smears, but I sort of think even associating "Palin" with something like "dinosaurs were satan lizards that angels killed" might drag her down a bit - trivialize her? I don't know - but I keep laughing as I think about it. I might be biased.

In June 1997, both Palin and I had responsibilities at the graduation ceremony of a small group of Wasilla area home schoolers. I directed the Mat-Su College Community Band, which played music, and she gave the commencement address. It was held at her church, the Wasilla Assembly of God.

Palin had recently become Wasilla mayor, beating her earliest mentor, John Stein, the then-incumbent mayor. A large part of her campaign had been to enlist fundamentalist Christian groups, and invoke evangelical buzzwords into her talks and literature.
